I was hoping to be able to sneak downstairs and visit more yesterday but ended up in meetings all day and I missed seeing so many of you! I blocked my entire day off today and Noah and I are serving mimosas and listening to polka music from 11-5. Take an additional 20% off everything we have! This is a tough post to write, although I'm sure it won't come as a complete surprise given the sporadic hours that I've kept after priding myself on consistency for the first 14 months of business. I am sadly closing the doors of my beloved little store. Opening this store and evolving it over the past year and a half has truly been a creative joy for me. I treasure the new people I've met and the old friends I've reconnected with. As many of you know, the store was meant to be a side venture to supplement my educational consulting work. At times, it's been difficult to juggle both but it was mostly manageable. I've recently been offered the professional opportunity of a lifetime that I simply couldn't refuse, but the time commitment is intense. The store in its current model can't continue with my new schedule and workload. That being said, the plan is to keep the building as a vibrant part of our wonderful little community in Scenery Hill. More information to come on the specifics. In the meantime, I need to clear out inventory to begin the evolution of that space. That means we're having a SALE!! Come take advantage of deep discounts on women's fashion and accessories this weekend, along with some furniture and decor that we'll no longer need. Saturday and Sunday from 11AM - 5PM so please stop by. Otherwise, I want to thank everyone who supported me in this venture. Thank you for a wild and wonderful ride.

Coincidentally enough, I just finished reading this book called “The Year of Living Danishly.” It’s pretty cold, snowy, and dark for a good chunk of the year in Denmark, which sounds rather depressing. A major element of their culture though is the concept of “hygge” (pronounced HOO-ga). It’s the idea of creating a cozy and comfortable environment for yourself so that hunkering down indoors is actually pleasurable. (Think candles, a fireplace, a comfortable chair in a cozy nook, and your favorite book.) Going into the cold and dark months with this attitude means that Denmark is consistently rated one of the happiest countries in the world despite their harsh weather.
It looks like we’re heading into a weekend that cries out for hygge. I’m still figuring a few things out with the store so we will be closed this weekend. I hope you all are in the midst of making soup, gathering blankets, and figuring out how to create your own sense of hygge here in PA. (And before the storm hits, I would argue that Beck-Ringland Tavern & Scenery Hill Brewing has the concept of hygge mastered so stop by and take a lesson from them!) Stay warm, stay safe!

I may be enjoying some time in Florida with my mom and kids but I'm still working with artists to plan some fun workshops to fight off the winter doldrums! Join us for one of our two Beginner's Crochet Workshops hosted by Hippies Modern Studio - either on Friday, January 30th from 6 - 8PM or Sunday, February 1st from 1 - 3PM. It’s Steelers Sunday!!!! I had to make an unexpected trip to Philly last night so my Mary is covering the store for me today (hence the picture of her in Steelers gear from a million years ago!). Today is THE LAST DAY of the 50% off sale for women’s clothing. After today, we will be closed for a couple weeks (other than a select few special events) while I migrate our entire inventory over to a new system that will make an online store possible.
