😬Let’s talk money and inflation… I know controversial! As a baker I often hear things like:
“oh this bake sale sold cookies for $1” or
“Wow, that’s a little expensive, better be a good cookie/treat/etc”
My pricing is based off of two things, the cost of all my ingredients, and the time it takes me to make all of it (which is often a couple hours per recipe)👩🏼🍳🍪. I use this fancy dancey app called CakeCost that breaks my recipes down with the cost of my ingredients and labor cost to give me my break even point. This does not include the time and money spent at vendor events and markets, my marketing materials, bags, gas, or even electricity usage.
I do not want to overcharge anyone for anything! And while I LOVE baking, I won’t bake to lose money. 🚫💵So I understand if my prices are not in budget, but I do also try to help out with extras left over from the market selling at a heavily discounted rate. Granted there are a decent amount of items that sell out at the markets.
This doesn’t just go for me, any baker, small business, etc all are facing massive input cost increases. Supporting local small businesses means supporting local families, families that reinvest back into the community.
(These costs pictured are on a per-serving basis… yes Cinnamon Rolls will be going up to $5 per serving, pretzel bites will be lowered to $5 in exchange though.) these are a small selection of recipes.
