Floyd’s market joins our community in mourning the loss of a truly influential and special person❤️

Some people leave a lasting impression, not only through what they accomplished, but through the kindness, support, and encouragement they gave to those around them. Roger‘s presence made the difference to all his employees and former employees and our community and we are grateful to have been touched by Roger’s kindness. Roger was a great man and will be missed by many.

We will be closed from 11-1 tomorrow, Saturday Aug 15, to honor Roger.

Roger Lee Floyd, 81, longtime Sedan resident and business owner passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at his home on Hulah Lake in Osage County Oklahoma.

He was born on September 15, 1944, to Darrel D. and Anna D. (Casement) Floyd. Roger grew up and attended Sedan Schools, graduating in 1961. He continued his education at Ottawa University before being drafted into the United States Army in 1966. Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War for 18 months as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Specialist, attaining the rank of Specialist Five (SP5). His military honors included the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After returning home, Roger attended Wichita State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business.

Roger worked at Safeway in Wichita becoming an Assistant Manager and later a store manager, while in Wichita he met the love of his life Jetta Savoy and they were married on December 10, 1971, and they shared four children. Roger and Jetta were approaching 55 years of marriage. They moved to Sedan, Kansas, when he bought his father’s share of the family store. He operated it until it was sold in February 2024.

Roger was a generous man, although he rarely sought recognition for the things he did for others. His generosity was often quiet and behind the scenes. He was always willing to help someone who needed it, whether through his time, his resources, or simply by showing up when it mattered. Many of his acts of kindness were known only to the people he helped. That quiet generosity was simply part of who Roger was, but those who knew Roger knew he could also be somewhat stubborn and very strong willed.

Roger loved traveling, boating, waterskiing, and being at the lake, but flying held a special place in his heart. He was an accomplished private pilot with more than 6,000 hours of flight time, Roger loved being at the controls of his planes and in the sky.
Roger always said if he could be an animal, he’d be “a fish or a bird” — a fish so he could always be in the water and a bird so he could always be in the sky.

Roger was deeply involved in his community throughout his life. An Eagle Scout himself, he later served as a Boy Scout leader for at least five years. He also served on the local Fair Board, the Emmett Kelly Museum Board, and the Hospital Board. Roger believed in giving back to the community he called home, often contributing his time and resources without seeking recognition. He also helped provide opportunities for children in Sedan to experience live stage productions, one of the many ways his generosity quietly touched the lives of others.

Roger is survived by his wife Jetta of the home; his children Jay Floyd, Michelle Floyd and Austin Floyd; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Darrel and Anna Floyd; one son William Floyd; one grandson Aiden James Floyd and one great-grandson Elliott Floyd.

A funeral service celebrating Roger's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Sedan High School Gymnasium with Pastor Mark Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard Fort Riley, Kansas.

The family suggests memorials in Roger's memory to Tunnels to Towers; contributions may be left with or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
