As the weather warms up - we're excited to share that we'll have the Mercer County Food Bank with their Snow Cones back to Strawberry Fest at the Market 9-Noon Saturday, June 13 - we'll be located under the pavilion next to Quaker Steak and L**e! At the end of every market, the farmers donate produce to the Mercer County Food Bank - last year we donated more than a (literal) ton of food to our nonprofit partner! See you June 13!

One of the things you can find every Saturday at the market is fresh locally grown flowers - and we'll also have them at our Strawberry Fest at the Market 9 AM - Noon Saturday, June 13 under the pavilion next to Quaker Steak & L**e! These include a Build Your Own Bouquet Bar by Lydalia Gardens of Jefferson Township and bright sunflowers (among other things such as potted paladium and herbs) from Miller's Produce Farm out of Volant. Save the date for Strawberry Fest June 13 - then the Downtown Sharon Farmers Market kicks off 8 AM - Noon Saturday, July 4!

A few details including:
* There are almost 9000 farmers markets across the US
* 81% of US adults say they shop at one at least once a year
* 65% of attendees nationally are women - ours is closer to 50/50

The top three kinds of reasons/interests people shop at farmers markets include:
* Highly engaged - Enjoy buying, preparing and eating fresh foods
* Health-focused - Prioritizes buying and eating healthy foods
* Emerging interest - Values convenience and learning about food

We're proud of the impact our the Downtown Sharon Farmers Market.
This article sums up some of the reasons a farmers market positively supports a community.
These include:
* Every dollar spent at a farmers market, Almost half of that gets invested back into the local community.
* A vibrant market creates an active 'third space' in the community its located in. (A third space is where people go to casually converse with others and connect with their community.)
* It encourages creativity with active cooking. When fresh produce is purchased, it has to be used fairly quickly, which means culinary preparation which in turn encourages ingenuity and invention.
