Experimented with seeding 3 rows of carrots and 1 of beets 5 inches apart in a bed inside my high tunnel in early April. Then I came back end of April with tomato transplants and staggered them right into this bed. A week later I thinned out the carrots directly near the tomato plants. And today I pulled some nearly ready to harvest carrots. The idea is to harvest the beets and carrots now so the tomatoes can take off. Tomatoes are just starting to blossom. I have a control row of just plain tomatoes in the next bed over, they are a bit smaller right now, but a bit more bushy.

I read the book called Carrots Love Tomatoes and wanted to see if a high density intercrop would work for me way up North. Seems a success to me. Yeah I know the next photo is a radish not a beet, that was unrelated, just picked.

I had the pre-opening inspection from 'Food and Lodging' this morning. They were excited to see all the progress since I submitted the permit applications over a year ago. I have learned a lot through the process. All I have left now, to meet state requirements, is a fire marshall inspection planned next week.
