Gerlach provided quality meats to restaurants, public schools, hospitals, and others throughout the state of Louisiana. Dick's son-in-law, Pete Miller began working at Gerlach in the 60's. In 1970 Gerlach Meat Company was the first plant in Shreveport to be awarded the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Inspection Permit. This gave Gerlach a full-time USDA Inspector to assure the highest quality st
andards in meat products. In the 80's, with Dick wanting to retire, Pete bought the company and formed Foodway, Inc. Today, Foodway, Inc still provides Federally Inspected meats along with grocery, frozen vegetables, and other dry goods throughout Louisiana.
