We’re beyond grateful to celebrate our Organic Einkorn Farro as a winner at this year’s Good Food Awards and honored to accept this recognition on behalf of the farmers, millers, bakers, cooks, and grain lovers who make this work possible. The first cultivated wheat, einkorn, reminds us why heritage grains have endured for thousands of years. Grown by farmers in our region who are committed to building healthy soils and resilient farms, then freshly pearled in small batches right here at our mill in Skowhegan, Maine.

Good food made with care deserves to be recognized, and we’re honored to receive a Good Food Award alongside so many talented makers who are building a more resilient and equitable food system through their craft. Grateful to be part of this community.

And a special shout-out to our friends here in Maine who were also recognized.

The Somali Bantu Crop Blessing is a meaningful tradition rooted in gratitude, community, and hope for a healthy harvest. Centered around gathering together through prayer, song, food, and shared celebration, the blessing honors the deep connection between people, the land, and the nourishment it provides.

For many Somali Bantu families and communities, farming is more than a livelihood. It is a way of preserving culture, caring for one another, and passing knowledge through generations. The crop blessing reflects resilience, stewardship, and thankfulness, while bringing the community together in celebration of growth and abundance.

We’re honored to partner with the Somali Bantu community by purchasing community-grown corn and helping share its story through food. To support long-term, community-led agriculture, 5% of proceeds are returned directly to the community, helping strengthen opportunities for future generations of farmers and families.

Strong communities are more than just the businesses and organizations, they're built around the everyday experiences that remind us that we’re part of something bigger.

Quality food is part of that foundation. It connects us to the people who grow it, make it, and share it. It creates gathering places, restores local economies, and reflects the dedication and craftsmanship that make Maine communities so strong.

This week at Build Maine, we're proud to contribute to those conversations and walk toward the same vision. Join us Wednesday to enjoy breakfast featuring locally grown Maine Grains, made right here in Skowheagan .

We’re proud to sponsor events like Build Maine because meaningful change happens when people come together to share ideas, learn from one another, and strengthen connections in the place we call home. We're looking forward to sharing a taste of that with the people who are helping build strong, vibrant communities across our state.

Eating sourdough bread is better for you, and here’s Martha Stewart ‘s summary of why that is …

Understand what eating sourdough every day does to your body. Unlike other types of bread, sourdough undergoes a fermentation process. Nutrition and sourdough experts explain that this can make the bread easier to digest, sustain healthy gut bacteria, help maintain blood sugar balance, and more.

There’s something comforting about pulling out your mom’s lemon meringue pie recipe. Dog-eared, stained, softened from years of use. It’s one you can find in a recipe box just by feel, folded and tucked between celebrations.

This time of year, when the days stretch longer and the hens are laying bright yellow yolks, it’s the pie that keeps coming back. Especially when planning a bake for Mother’s Day 💛

Find the recipe at the link our bio.

🌾 After attending the Kneading Conference in Skowhegan, Maine and becoming inspired, Michael prepared to retire from a career in finance to start a bread business that has become a force for good in his community.

♥️ Fueled by passion, a desire to learn and freshly milled local grains, Michael has created a micro business that has neighbors, contractors, delivery drivers, friends and family stopping by his little bread truck to make good bread, produced by people you know, a staple in his neighborhood.

Moreover, and harder to measure, is the positive impact of obstacles overcome, connections formed, neighbors that meet each others, weekly conversations and care offered in community that build strong relationships and places we all want to live.

Congrats, Michael 🍞
