Howdy! We don't post often in the off season, so I just wanted to hop on here to show you a few highlights of what we've been up to the past few months!
Several have reached out asking if we have plans for fall crops this year. Every year, we spend a fair amount of time deciding which crops to grow. There are a multitude of factors that play into the final decision such as timing of the crop and space within the deer fence. So, for 2026, we will not be growing or selling any fall crops (pumpkins, mums, fall bedding plants, collards, etc.). Growing pumpkins requires planting and tending the plants in the heart of the summer, which is also the time when the kids and I have the most time off of school to travel.
Learning from our travels is one of our favorite things to do together as a family. This summer, we took a road trip out west. There we saw how strawberries are grown on an incredibly massive scale in California. Pictured here is Driscoll's strawberries, headquartered in Watsonville, CA. They plant their berries with very narrow row middles. The climate was mild, in the 70s, which is why they can grow berries year round. It's amazing what an impact water has on the entire agricultural industry in the west. Water is life.
Back at home, we've been busy preparing for the next strawberry crop. Within about a month or so, we'll have our berries planted. This weekend, we spent some time repairing some irrigation and getting the land prepared.
We are eager to get these strawberries in the ground and we can't wait to welcome you back to our farm in April 2027! 🍓
