📖 Meet Our Secretary: Kelly Shillington📖
Kelly was voted in as Secretary in March of 2026. Prior to stepping into this role, she served as the Market Manager, and many of you already know her as a familiar face at the market. Kelly has also been a vendor for the past two years, where her sourdough loaves, English muffins, and scones have become customer favorites. In addition to her baked goods, she offers homemade soaps, fresh greens, browned butter cookies, and handcrafted wooden utensils.
A lifelong baker originally from Florida, Kelly has called New Mexico home for the past 15½ years. She and her husband spent nearly a decade living off-grid in a three-story home they built themselves—powered by solar energy and equipped with composting toilets. During that time, they homeschooled their three children, ran an herbal business, raised rabbits and turkeys for meat, goats for milk and cheese, and grew their own vegetables—fully embracing a self-sufficient, pioneer lifestyle.
Their journey later took them to Datil, New Mexico, where they spent a couple of years managing a ranch before settling into their current home.
Kelly credits her husband for encouraging her to join the Socorro Farmers Market as a vendor. Inspired by his fond memories of the market—including trips to purchase bulk garlic from local vendors—Kelly found not only a place to share her baked goods, but also a strong sense of community. She especially enjoys the scenic drive from Datil to Socorro and the connections the market fosters.
Thank you, Kelly, for stepping into the role of Secretary and for everything you bring to the market. We are so grateful to have you as part of our community!⭐️💚
