Nothing better than celebrating our true roots!

Stop and look closely at your marigolds! Did you know the ones sold at most big-box stores are actually threatening the original Aztec marigold? 🌼
Let’s talk about the real Cempasúchil (Tagetes erecta). The native Aztec marigold isn't a giant, dense globe. It’s a beautifully open flower with around 20 delicate petals.
Nowadays, the market is flooded with heavily commercialized F1 Hybrids—bred specifically to have those massive, round pom-pom blooms and super hardy stems. They look great, but they come with a hidden cost: genetic contamination. 🧬🐝
When pollinators visit these F1 hybrid blooms, they pick up modified pollen and carry it over to our native Aztec marigolds. Over time, the seeds produced by our native plants become hybrids themselves, and the pure genetics of the true Cempasúchil are literally bred out of existence.
As a first-generation, Latino-owned business right here in the south elgin area, protecting our heritage and our native ecosystems means everything to us. Let’s make space for the originals. Protect the natives! ✊🏽🧡
Live. Grow. Plant.
