Green Bee Farm

Green Bee Farm Green Bee Farm is a bee-friendly, organic mini farm. We have several bee hives and also raise free-range chickens for their eggs.

We also like the "fertilizer" our hens produce and the "weeding" they do in their yard. We also just enjoy their daily antics We pick all the vegetables and fruits by hand, selling some at our roadside stand (hours vary depending on the harvest), and donating much of the produce to 2nd Harvest, a local food bank. We use no pesticides at all on the farm and everything is grown organically.

Seven years ago we bought a 1.3 acre property (that consisted of a house and field) and we developed it into the Green Bee Farm. Our plan was to grow some good food for our family, sell some product at our on-site market and donate the remainder to Spokane area food banks. We are entering our seventh season of growing, harvesting, selling, and donating veggies and other products but an honest look at how much we can do in the space we have needs to change....

Last summer I had a large number of praying mantises all over the property, so I guess it wasn't a big surprise to find cocoons this winter. I found around five cocoons on T-Posts in the garden, I assume if I look around I can find more. In the spring, when the tiny mantises emerge, I might see a lot around the garden. Look out aphids! Each cocoon can hold 50 to 300 eggs, but it is estimated, only about five live to adulthood.

We hope everyone is keeping warm and celebrating the season. Have a virtual cookie! I made butter cookies filled with Green Bee Farm Black Currant Jam , Sour Cherry Jam, and Raspberry Jam (not pictured). Given all the snow (and cold temps) the last two months, I was able to get my next season plans done early and ordered the seeds I'll need. We'll have some new veggie items and varieties in the market next year. See you soon! Judy and Bruce

Our Story

We are a family mini farm that is tractor free and all veggies are hand picked. Being a bee friendly farm, we use no pesticides and grow flowers just for the bees. Our goal is to leave the soil better than what we started with. That is, each year we add organic material to our soil so the crops grown the next year start with a soil richer than the previous year. We use a holistic philosophy where each component of our farm supports other parts. Our bees pollinate and provide us with honey and our chickens provide us eggs and natural fertilizer while helping w**d the garden and eat pests.
