CLYDE
March 2023 to April 2025
- The BEST rooster I've ever had when it comes to protecting his ladies and "family" ...
***He would let them eat first always (if I put a snack/treat down he would call his ladies over and watch them eat, he would eat until everyone got some, and if he didn't get any he was okay with his job) ... he was always watching his ladies and their surroundings....
***If I brought any babies/chicks/young birds home he guide/taught them and truly protected them. It was beautiful to see because I had never witnessed a rooster as amazing in his skills.
***We had quite a hard time when he began to "feel himself" and challenge me but he learned and I learned.... and we had mutual respect for one another ....
***I was "forced" to say goodbye to him this past Saturday night due to his passing...

March 2023 to April 2025

***Clyde taught me so much and I am so grateful to have had the gift of his teachings.***

They cannot stay still ... Right before I was able to pull up the camera they were all huddled together and all 3 roos were around the ladies it was very beautiful to see .... Since my last post and feather babies count on here I had three chicks born in July when I was on a trip and the neighbors were watching my flock and other fur babies and they are not too familiar with farm animals (they are learning) but they didn't realize if they don't collect the eggs there is a high potential for babies ... So the day I got home I was in shock had 1 new chick and the next day there were a total of three chicks none of the moms were claiming then so I just stuck them under one of the hens ever time I checked on them then the hens seemed to understand their assignment so a couple of the hens and one of the roosters began to raise them ... One of the babies was not too bright and I continued to (2x) got itself stuck in the water(water wasn't high enough because I took actions to make sure just in case) but still I wasn't sure it was gonna make it to adulthood due to its actions.... But all three survived without any intervention.... Because in all honesty I really didn't want to raise any babies I had just raised five earlier in the year myself so when I saw the new babies I told the flock this is on them they hatched them so I left it to the universe for their survival.... All three are thriving and two turned to be hens and one roo.... Again I was a little concerned to have another rooster and how his personality would be.... Because I have a very dominant boy already.... But he is turning out to be very dosil..... But a little dittsy... He may have been the baby that I kept finding stuck in places.... But my very happy flock.... I lost my second hen that was all white from the five that survived earlier this year... I named her Angelica... I assume a bird picked her up because I did not find any evidence of anything and she was one that always stayed close.... But aside everyone is very healthy and present ....
The count now is:
4 female ducks 🦆
19 Hens 🐔
3 Roosters 🐓

Hi all that follow my flock, I had a couple close family deaths to include my pitty princess in the last post a couple months ago and have been grieving... I am beginning to find my groove again, sorry for my lack in social media presence and I hope everyone who sees this and doesn't is doing amazing!!! Xoxo

Luna being such a good listener when the chicken kept coming close to her and following her... Luna at times comes with me into the fence and everyone else is way more interested in her than she is in them...

Peep letting Roo know s kick something she didn't like... she was basically chasing him yelling at him... I wish I could have documented the entire moment but it was a quick interaction. Roo ran away and Peep went her separate way... Peep is higher on the pecking order as well, she will actively mount the other ducks, she still allows the roosters to mount her but she still tells them off.
(The red rooster is Roo, not a recent photo but just as a reminder which one of the flock is Roo...)

Some of Clyde trying to buck on me and I showed him that doesn't get far... he is chilled out in the photo from a few mins prior... every creatures communication is so interesting and unique. There is a true "pecking" order with the birds and they are always working to gain up the order, alwaysin ever interaction with one another (it's a lot of work)... Clyde is the top of the birds and he "occationally" will try to challenge me... immediately I grab him and hold him secure or they have claws, beaks, and talons... then gently but forcefully put him on the ground gentle put his head on the ground and put pressure on his back as if you are the rooster mounting the hen (I am on my knees doing this so I try to go where there is straw)... I do this hold him for a few seconds in that position then lift him back up securely, attempt to pet him and have a conversation, if he tries to fight me we repeat until he is able to be calm and relaxed. I don't have to do this too often anymore because he has finally realized I am THE TOP ... lol
