Maurice’s Seafood...once Woodlee Market...
Maurice’s Seafood, picking up where Woodlee Market left, has served the Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta Country area sine 1975. Woodlee Market opened in 1935 and continued with their grocery, meat and produce business until 1980-1982. A few of our regular customers still mention their memories of the traditional “corner grocery” as the place to go to for fresh meats, sugar-cured country ham, cheeses and local produce.
We introduced seafood into our market around 1979, offering fresh flounder, perch and other seafood products. We established relationships with suppliers in Hampton and Northern Virginia, and we were able to keep up with the demand for more quality seafood items, such as wild Virginia Oysters, “dry”pack Scallops, Gulf Shrimp and our very special Scottish Salmon from the Faeroe Islands.
Today, along with our seafood, Maurice continues to cooked country ham, ham biscuits, and turkey dinners, and offer Sterling Silver beef Rib Eye steak and seasoned boneless prime ribs, which have become quite popular during the holidays, along with the Virginia Oysters that are so popular here in the Shenandoah Valley.
