A few March updates: farm store and wash/pack are deep cleaned, updated and almost ready to open. We hope to open this month for the season but are troubleshooting some cooler issues.
A haul of overwintered greens and pea shoots went to Commodities today. Some have our updated label, which reflects our certification with not just Vermont Organic Farmers but the Real Organic Project, a farmer-led add-on label that distinguishes soil-grown produce and pasture-raised animal products from increasingly common - but not organic at the root meaning of the cause - hydroponic produce and CAFO animal products. All of our produce and eggs are certified through the Real Organic Project! Updated egg labels are a work in progress.
More transplants went into the ground today : cilantro, pac choi, and mesclun. More seeding this weekend.
Let it snow!

The second week after the CSA ended we flew to Water Island in the USVI and got copious sun and warm breezes. Oliver and Elliot played in the sand and water for three hours every morning. I read an entire book. We scoped out tortoises and flowers and went for walks. The sand scrubbed our calluses away. Thanks for the beautiful and mellow spot to recharge.

For the first week after the CSA ended, we went into staycation mode. I don’t know when taking a week off of school to avoid illness prior to a trip will stop feeling necessary, but while it does, we make the best of it. We skied and went to the Echo Center. We perfected our strawberry buttercream (the key was a reduction of our fall berries) and made red cabbage curtido. We were inspired by artist Rachel working at Artisan and by baker Blair working in her custom mill and bakery. It’s such a gift to have some time to be awestruck by the beauty and creativity in our surrounding community.

Happy New Year! For the past 41 Tuesdays we have been packing veggie boxes for neighbors, friends and community members. This was our first year offering a 4-season CSA!
Our farm business is an ecosystem, diverse in product and sales channels. We are so grateful for our customers - members, farm store visitors, meat share recipients, and wholesale accounts - who keep our business vibrant.
The first seeds of next season will be in the soil about 6 weeks from now. In the meantime, we will be planning, skiing, seeking warmer temperatures, deep cleaning the wash/pack station and trying to make headway on house projects.
See you soon!

Merry Christmas to all those celebrating today! We hope you’re cozy.
