🌱🪴 Garden season prep is officially underway at Shy Wolf Ranch! 🪴🌱
We’re building our raised beds the ranch way — simple, effective, and ready to grow some serious food 💪
Here’s the game plan:
🌿 Base layer: mulch to help with drainage and keep things from compacting
🪵 Top layer: good quality topsoil (because our plants deserve better than guessing games)
🌾 Boost it up: adding fertilizer to get those nutrients right where they need to be
☀️ Final step: covering it with plastic to warm the soil and get it nice and ready for planting
Basically… we’re over here tucking our garden beds in like little dirt burritos until it’s time for the main event 🌯😂
Spring might be unpredictable out here, but we’re getting a head start however we can. Strong roots = strong plants = full pantry 🙌
Now we wait (impatiently) for planting day… because let’s be honest, we’re already picking out where everything is going 😅
🌿 Who else is getting their garden ready?!

We blinked once, saw the sun, and suddenly it’s:
chickens yelling about breakfast like they’ve never been fed before 🥚
goats acting like they’ve discovered gravity for the first time 🐐💨
mud… everywhere… on everything… including places we didn’t even walk 😅
and us, wondering who signed us up for farm cardio season again
Winter had us moving slow… sipping coffee… pretending chores could wait…
Spring said: “absolutely not, get up — everything is alive and needs you NOW.” 🌱
The ranch is waking up, the egg colors are getting prettier, and the chaos is back in full swing (just how we like it).
If you need us, we’ll be outside pretending we have our lives together while chasing chickens and losing boots in the mud 🫠
🌾 Happy Spring from Shy Wolf Ranch — where hibernation ends and the madness begins. 🐺💚

🌿🥚 A Little Rainbow From the Nest Boxes 🥚🌿
One of my favorite things about mornings on the ranch is opening the nest boxes and seeing what the hens left overnight. Every day feels like a little treasure hunt.
At Shy Wolf Ranch, our flock lays some truly beautiful eggs — deep chocolate browns, dusty blues, olive greens, warm creams, soft pink tones, and speckles that look like they were painted by hand. No two cartons ever look the same.
These eggs are a reflection of our heritage flock and the variety of breeds we raise. Each hen brings something special to the nest box, and together they create these incredible natural colors.
Sometimes I have to stop for a moment and just admire them before they ever make it to a carton. Nature really is the best artist.
The hens have been generous lately, so we’ve got plenty of these little pieces of ranch art available.
🥚 Beautiful multi-colored eggs
💲 $4 per dozen
Message us if you'd like to grab a carton of these ranch rainbows.

🐣✨ Shoutout to a Young Entrepreneur! ✨🐣

Today we had the absolute pleasure of running a little “Chick-Uber” service from the feed store to a very special farm — Kwynn's Koop

Kwynn is 9 years old and already running her own poultry business. Let that sink in. At an age where most kids are just learning about responsibility, she’s out here caring for her flock, learning about feed, making business decisions, and building something of her own.

Entrepreneurship doesn’t have an age requirement — it requires heart, consistency, and courage… and Kwynn has all three. 💛

We’re proud to support young farmers and future ag leaders. The agricultural community grows stronger when we encourage the next generation to dream big, work hard, and get their boots dirty.

Keep going, Kwynn. The farm world is lucky to have you. 🐓🌾

🐭🚨 Coop Security Upgrade: The Mousinator

We finally had to admit it…
The chickens weren’t the only ones enjoying the feed. 🙃

So we added a Mousinator multi-catch trap to our coop — and let’s just say… it’s been BUSY.

Mice in a coop:
• Steal your expensive feed
• Move into nesting boxes like they pay rent
• Multiply faster than chicks in spring
• Invite predators to dinner

We did NOT want to use poison anywhere near our birds, and snap traps get old fast (and messy).

This trap:
✔️ No poison
✔️ Multi-catch
✔️ Low maintenance
✔️ Chicken-proof & chicken-safe
✔️ Fits right in the coop

The hens are completely unbothered.
The mice… not so much. 😌

If you’re fighting coop mice and want something safe for your flock, this has been a solid solution for us at Shy Wolf Ranch.

Farm life = constant problem solving.
This one feels like a win.

1 night. 4 traps. 12 mice.

Farm Life: The Hard Parts & the Hope 🤍🐖

This week reminded us that farming isn’t always the picture-perfect moments we share — sometimes it’s heart-heavy lessons and resilience.
We welcomed a litter that didn’t go as we hoped. We lost several piglets, but one little fighter made it. When mom wasn’t able to nurse, we stepped in immediately, making sure colostrum was given and committing to round-the-clock care from day one.
That single piglet is doing well — eating, growing, and proving just how strong life can be even when it starts out rough.
Loss is never easy, but caring for animals means showing up fully — especially when it’s hard. We’re grateful for the lessons, the reminder of how fragile new life can be, and for the chance to keep learning and doing better for our animals every day.
Thank you to those who support real, honest farming — the good and the tough parts alike. 🐺🌾

Keep Those Feeders & Waterers Clean! 🪣✨

A happy, healthy flock starts with the basics — clean feed and clean water.
Out here at Shy Wolf Ranch, we make it a routine to give all feeders and waterers a good scrub with light soap, warm water, and a little elbow grease.

Why it matters:
✔️ Keeps bacteria and algae from building up
✔️ Prevents funky odors or stale feed
✔️ Helps your animals stay healthy, hydrated, and well-fed
✔️ Supports better growth, better eggs, and better overall wellness

Whether you have 2 animals or 200, a quick clean-up makes a world of difference.
Routine care = happy critters. 🐓🐐🐖💧

Stay clean, stay healthy, stay thriving! 🌿💚
