Check out our newest vendor profile on Love City Brewing! 🍻 Melissa and Kevin Walter are people who took hold of opportunities here in the Philly area, grew their skills, and then springboarded into their own business in order to spread their love of b**r, community, and doing good works. Join us and communities across the country in celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day today, October 12th! This is a day to honor the culture, history, and contributions of the Indigenous People nationwide!

Specifically, the Mid-Atlantic region including Swarthmore, was once part of Lenapehoking (Lenni-Lenape Land). You may even notice some names of towns and roads in this area that are direct references to this tribe. Coinciding with National CO-OP month, many lasting practices from Indigenous American cultures have influenced the philosophy of cooperatives worldwide! Prior to colonization, many agriculture-based tribes relied heavily on the community as a whole to tend to and process the food they ate. Community effort to source food is what our CO-OP was founded on in 1937 thanks to influence from Indigenous cultures and beyond!

We encourage you to learn about the rich Indigenous history of our area and all around! There are plenty of great resources around Delco! Check out your local libraries (like our friends over at the Swarthmore Public Library) or reach out to the lovely folks at the Delaware County Historical Society in Media.

🎂October is National CO-OP Month! As the third oldest Food Cooperative in the Nation, we’re proud to have been upholding the 7 Cooperative Principles for the last 89 years! This just so happens to be our birthday month as well! So join us in wishing the CO-OP a happy 89th Birthday today, 10/6!
