Lots of unpacking to do from the weekend, turn and burn, they’re all headed back out later this week….Couple of programming notes – We’ll be CLOSED on LABOR DAY MONDAY next week, so don’t show up looking for BBQ, but if you want to come stack wood, clean pits, or run the power washer, feel free to come help me on my day off…additionally, we have several upcoming events with 1,000 - 1,500 guests, and for two of those dates we’ll most likely need to close the store…we’ll keep you posted on those dates, I hate doing it, but my stress level doesn’t like exceeding a certain level of moving parts, no matter how well you plan it never survives first contact, and sometimes you gotta say NO MAS…finally, you’ve noticed we took one of our meat counters out of commission….we installed it brand new in 2011, and now it’s time to replace the mechanicals, coils, etc…it will be back soon, but tuning it to run for the next 15 years is gonna take a few days and a few dollas…all part of the continued growth and reconstitution…FULL BBQ LINEUP straight ahead, AIRPOWER..… 😉

Yesterday we had a nice rain come through on the way to Mrs. Linda Culp’s visitation, and that gave way to a beautiful rainbow over Rockdale, where today we will say our final respects to a true icon of Thorndale….she made a difference in many lives, in almost 50 years of teaching….she was one of a kind, and will be missed….… 😉

Blazin’ on into the weekend, flyin’ high as always, and one reason we do so is because of some great teachers that showed us the way early in life….one of those many of you know, Mrs. Linda Culp, who passed away earlier this week, who taught at Thorndale ISD for many decades…she even taught our parents, and in some cases 3 generations of family….it’s touching to read all the memorials pouring forth from classmates and friends; she made a difference in thousands of lives…..there weren’t many like her, and we’ll certainly miss getting that blunt talk and sense of humor, but mostly the standard she set for us and refusal to accept mediocrity that we carry on with us our entire lives….FLY HIGH, Mrs. Culp….AIRPOWER… 😉

A few weeks back we flew home from Temple, which reminded me about the day almost 6 years ago when we brought Mean Green home from this same airport after her first round of overhauls…back then, she only had 4 good cylinders (out of 6), questionable magnetos, and an exhaust leak that caused her to backfire at low RPM….it was the first step in more than a year of major repairs, but as you can see, today she climbs like a Bat out of Carlsbad Caverns….here’s a snippet from next week’s article: “On January 29, 2021, I walked into the FBO at Temple Draughon-Miller Airport to buy a sectional map, just to be legal to fly home They looked at me the way the car dealership looked at grandpa when he tried to buy a truck with hand-crank windows. “Nobody uses those anymore”, was basically what they told me. No doubt thinking to themselves, “where the heck did this guy come from?” Before they could call the cops on me, I must have had a confused look on my face, because the younger guy chimes in, that “most people just use their phone.” He showed me how to do it, and I pretended to follow. In my mind, I already knew which direction to fly to get back to Taylor, so let’s get home and figure all this stuff out later”….AIRPOWER….;-)

Turning in for an approach at grandpa Frank’s landing strip, in his airplane, of course….always an honor to remember him, and you can read a little more about that in this week’s Cameron Herald on Thursday….here’s a teaser: “Back in 2009, I made my last flight for nigh a decade, and entered a 12-year hiatus from flying. There was no rhyme or reason there, life just went a different direction.”….AIRPOWER….;-)
