I know that there are many seeing our post on this page that never knew or even heard of C&R Louisiana shrimp company LLC . Too those people that are just learning of us we welcome you to our content. For those that knew of us and/or did business with us, come to know us personally but are just seeing us return back to the industry for the first time since early 2016 we really hope too serve you again with our freshly caught .

If there are any that hasn't figured it out yet, we are a very small speck of sand on miles of beach in this industry and always have been. I'm by far NOT some record class fisherman with huge knowledge and capabilities, or one with a large $250,000 plus vessel or multiple vessels. We were once a several person operation with a slightly larger vessel than what we have now and factors such as health and finances accompanied with storm damages forced myself, wife, and kids out of the industry 10 years ago.

I tried and did many different things over the past 10 years to earn a living but the passion for being on the water and serving customers with freshly caught has never left my heart, bones, or blood.

So here I go again and it feels a lot different today than it did before. Anxiety is high, stomach with butterflies. It probably wasn't the smartest of decisions but at age 56 I wanted to give it one more go. If I do well it will be a blessing, if I don't do well it will still be a blessing that I was granted with a rebound in health and finances as well as having my wifes support to get back on the water pulling in freshly caught seafood to put on dinner tables for many as I have done for nearly 27 years.

In All my years of catching in waters I've never eaten the 1st tiger shrimp. I've caught plenty but never had the inclination to try them. I've been told they are similar to and I don't care for lobster.

I'm definitely ready for my dinner times while on anchor in the very water the dinner was caught.

At a point fishermen have to resonate that commercial fishing is a profession, its a profession that takes billions of dollars as a whole to operate. It generates billions of dollars into the economy on many different levels from engine manufacturing to ice production and everything between. On a local level it keeps roofs over the heads of families, groceries on the tables of families that work in this profession. Our 3 children were raised on a fisherman's wage so yes we know from experience. Its a profession that also puts food on millions of dinner tables.

I've heard it said before that its just shrimp and somehow over the years developed a frame of pricing on the local retail level that doesn't raise to the level of expense it takes to operate catching them or to sustain the workers in the industry keeping a roof over their head.
Its been said, get another profession and for some that is possible, and for some it has been done. For many it has been tried, for many with a lifetime investment in the fishing industry with no credentials in another trade to fall on have also tried and job interviews were more like speed dating (especially for those 40 years of age and older). "I have 1st hand knowledge"

It may be just shrimp to many, but to the workers in the industry that shrimp is their livelihood just the same as the livelihood that many get up each morning and go to daily to build a better life.

Far too long I've witnessed fishermen retail price themselves completely out of business because of some customers with the "its just a shrimp mentality" while many of those same customers never fault at insane prices on other goods that aren't a necessity. While it has gotten a little better there are still (some) fisherman that will sell at prices that are not remotely close to what it takes to be sustainable.

There are also many that have hobby vessels and obtain a commercial license and take vacation days from their full-time day jobs and literally flood the market at the local retail level many of which aren't even selling within the guidelines of the law and that needs harsh enforcement and it needs to stop.

Well a bit of good news and some bad news. The good news is the dock prices we are working for have been lower than they are now. The bad news is the fuel was half the cost as it currently is.

Back during this time is when I literally worked myself into the hospital trying to make ends meet and had to get out of the industry. I refuse to repeat working myself back into the hospital to near death again trying to make ends meet.

Im posting our dock prices from back then and the dates of those prices are in the screenshots. Im also posting our retail prices from back then and that date in the screenshot corresponds with the dock prices back then. Our retail prices will be higher than than these posted from back then.

Per Google you will see a screenshot of the fuel prices back then. I will post what our prices will be when I figure something out. I realize I can't expect for consumers to eat the entire inflated increase but fisherman can't eat the entire inflated cost either and still be able to operate so there has to be a middle ground.

Price & Location information.
I will be putting up prices of the different sizes when it gets closer to the season opening on the 17th of August.
sizes and quantity caught is unknowable, that is at the mercy of Gods grace.
I can't give x price today and diesel jumps in price a crazy amount between now and the 17th. If fuel drops a little lower I can adjust a little lower as well so long as I'm catching enough to make and cover what it takes to operate and still make a living.

Pricing also depends on supply and demand but that isn't as big of an issue as it is for the operating expenses but it does play a factor. I do realize that I have to be within reason of affordability for consumers which is also a balancing act. The cost of living and eating is high for everyone but because food in the grocery store are high doesn't mean our product can be cheaper just because every day goods in the grocery are expensive.
I dock in Terrebonne parish in Dulac, and transport our product to Hammond/Tickfaw area nearly 4 hours north if traffic is heavy. My ice expenses, travel expenses will be higher than a vessel sitting dockside selling on the bayou when they come in so my prices will have to reflect that to a certain degree. I really prefer not to sale straight off the side of my vessel. I do like to go home and wash my clothes, get a real good shower before dealing with the public handling sales of food to the consumer.

MAKE NOTE : The extremely low dock prices to the boat/fisherman do not play any role in our retail pricing to the consumers or to the wholesale shrimp peddlers buying shrimp to resale.
I will have a wholesale price for those that carry the proper license and documents to purchase and resale to the public. These prices will be set at a level that wholesale/retail dealers can't go 10 minutes up the road and cut my retail prices to the consumer. That just isn't good business sense or practice when I have the credentials to sale retail.
Our prices will be set by what it takes for us to operate vessel, pay the vessel a paycheck for maintenance and to put up for any breakdowns and for what it takes to make a living.

There will be times I will not draw a paycheck but the boat has to have a paycheck and it has to pay operating expenses or it will stay tied to the dock. Sounds a little harsh but this isn't a hobby, a weekend warrior, it isn't done for fun or for a little seafood boil and beer money, it is a business with overhead expenses just as any other business and once prices are set we do not do price haggling its not a good business practice. When operating becomes more affordable our prices will reflect that as well.

world. Lord PLEASE give me the strength, the patience, and tolerance to deal with the very things I despise most in life today. So far bright and early this morning its not getting off to a great start. Also the meeting to set the opening shrimp season date is today and that I expect to be a ruckus as well.

There is a time to be understanding and explain things on social media and then there are times to be blunt and call it as it is. To the person that has insinuated in a high manner that shrimp aren't being handled correctly and there may or may not be a shrimp under a crew members boot. You know who you are and if you are on this page to nitpick you've chosen the wrong page.

Maybe get familiar with shrimp sizes and the operation and process the shrimp go through and to realize how small those are and that they aren't retail shrimp that you see in a markets or a restaurant. Even if you do see a shrimp or two or even 10 under a boot those are factory shrimp that generally get ground for other foods anyway and even if it were 10 shrimp under the boot at 50/60 to a pound at .60 cents a pound during the time they were caught as factory shrimp you have lost little to nothing considering that total drop between both nets was about 450lbs at .60 cents a pound isn't much of a loss if any at all considering they get sucked out of the ice hold that you see in this picture under my deck that's holding 10,000 pounds with enough vacuum to suck a bowling ball out of an ice hold. This is those same shrimp you are questioning but have made it to the below deck ice hold that they flood with water and get sucked out with a vacuum hose that is 6 to 8 inches in diameter that is strong enough to send a bowling ball through the vacuum. So you tell me what the conditions of the shrimp will be when run through the vacuum and dumped in a water vat and run down a conveyor belt dropped onto a scale in 100lb increments in a vat then covered with ice every 100 lbs in that vat then shipped to a processor that later processes them in multiple types of feed mixes, protein powders, seasoning mixes, and whatever else they use them for. While 10,000 lbs sounds like a lot remember this same vessel holds 1,500 gallons of diesel for the engine, another 300 gallons of diesel for the generator, a 3 man crew, groceries for a 3 man crew, 3 extra sets of nets, $8,000 dollar in electronics, extra engine parts on board, $3,000 in tools on board to fix mechanical issues, 21 gallons of engine and hydraulic oil on board for if you have a problem you have to be able to fix the issues on the water. Before equipped its a $150,000 bare vessel that hasn't been equipped with the rigging and tools it takes to make it a shrimp vessel. Once you understand all that then come back and question a pound or two of shrimp that may be damaged by a boot in a 10 hour work day. To understand how things work find a vessel to get on and work for a season then you may have a leg to stand on to insinuate they aren't handled correctly. While you didn't outright criticize you did highly suggest poor quality just by looking at one Picture with shrimp around a persons boot that doesn't tell a story but only brings out someone to find something to complain about. I will directly post a picture of retail shrimp on the deck just under this post in comments. The picture this person is referring to will also be posted in the comment section of this post.
