One of my favorite things about growing Lion’s Mane is watching how dramatically it changes as it develops.

When the fruiting block is first cut open, Lion’s Mane begins forming dense, bumpy clusters that almost look like little heads of cauliflower. 🥦 As it matures, thousands of tiny spines begin to develop and lengthen, transforming it into something that reminds me of soft coral from the ocean. 🪸

Those little “teeth” are where Lion’s Mane produces its spores, and as they lengthen, the mushroom develops its beautiful shaggy appearance. 🦁🍄

⏱️ From cutting the fruiting block open to harvest, Lion’s Mane typically takes around 10–14 days, depending on the strain and growing conditions.

✨ We’re on Day 9, so these beauties are getting close! I’ll be watching the teeth as they continue to lengthen and harvesting while they’re still firm, white, and fresh.

It’s amazing watching mycelium turn into something this beautiful. 🤍

Inside my flow hood, I sanitize with 70% isopropyl alcohol, flame-sterilize my scalpel 🔥, then cut about ⅓ of a 60 mm agar plate into small pieces and transfer them into the grain.

A few good shakes distribute the agar throughout the oats — then it’s sealed, labeled & ready to colonize! 🤍
Store in a Sterile dark place
🌡️ 70–75°F
⏳ About 3–4 weeks
