All the rain this year has negatively impacted lots of cherry orchards this year …Smallwood Farms does a really good job at explaining what rain will do to cherries… take a look👍🙏

Example of what rain will do to cherries…

These are Lapin cherries, which are not ready to harvest. We’re seeing damage from all the rain, no matter how quickly we dry them. The moisture absorbs into the Cherry and sits on top of the stem, which causes splitting and cracking.

While it’s hard to wish away the rain, any cherry farmer will tell you, no more rain until we’re done with harvest! That’s how susceptible they are. We only have so much control in growing our crops every season, Mother Nature has the final say.

“The farmer has to be an optimist, or he still wouldn’t be a farmer.” -Will Rodgers
