How about some good news for your feed? 🌼🐝

We are officially building a massive pollinator habitat right here on our 22 acres at Honey Hill Tahoe Farm! To make it official, we’ve joined forces with the Xerces Society and mapped out our location with one big goal: growing native California and Sierra Nevada wildflowers with absolutely zero pesticides on the property.

Guess what? Our second-year flowers are just starting to wake up and bloom! Stay tuned, because gorgeous pictures are coming your way very soon. 📸✨

Let’s save the bees, one wild blossom at a time! 👇

We get asked all the time if our honey is available. We wish the answer was simple.

Last year, pesticides devastated our apiary. Across the US, a massive 55% of bee colonies died due to weather change, pesticides, and mites - right at the time the Trump Administration is cutting research, like the entire Bee Science Institute.

Just this week, the heartbreak hit home again. We lost 3 hives. Watching our bees act confused, lose their ability to fly, and die from what looks like severe pesticide poisoning is incredibly tough. Our foragers are dropping out in the fields and never making it back to the colony.

We are doing everything in our power to shield our surviving hives. Fingers crossed we can get through this season without another disaster.

We love seeing our local Truckee pups loving life (and snacks)! 🏔️❤️ Don’t take our word for it, though—check out these future Honey Hounds giving our Honey Hound Dog Treats a flawless 10/10 rating.

Why do we say Honey Hound Honey is small-batch and exclusive? 🐾🍯

Because when your hives are sitting at 6,600 feet in the Sierra Nevada Tahoe National Forest, Mother Nature keeps you on your toes! Even on May 27th, you never quite know what kind of weather is going to show up.

These wild mountain elements mean our bees have an incredibly tight window to gather pollen and nectar. Our season is short, our quantities are limited, but the honey? Absolutely unmatched. 🌲✨

Ever seen a beehive just… leave? 🏃‍♂️🐝

That’s exactly what happens during a swarm. When a hive gets over-crowded, the Queen and half her colony split to find a new spot. We caught a couple of swarms last week and realized one of them was actually our own hive looking for an upgrade!

It’s a constant game of staying one step ahead. If you don't keep them happy and spacious, they’ll find a new place to live!

🐝 The bees of the Tahoe National Forest are under threat — and most people have no idea.
The US Forest Service is currently spraying glyphosate (Roundup) across tens of thousands of acres of our Sierra Nevada forests — including areas right outside South Lake Tahoe, near the PCT, campgrounds, and communities like Meyers.
Glyphosate doesn't just kill weeds. It destroys wildflower habitat — the exact forage that sustains wild and managed bee populations across the Sierra. No mule's ear. No ceanothus. No clover. No bees.
Studies link glyphosate to disrupted bee gut microbiomes, impaired navigation, and colony decline. And at elevation, where the nectar flow is already short and fragile, losing even a few weeks of forage can mean losing a hive.
As a beekeeper at 6,600 ft, I watch my bees fly miles into these mountains for the wildflowers that make our honey what it is. That habitat is not replaceable with a can of Roundup.
This is our forest. Our watershed. Our pollinators.
