Tahoe Food Hub

Tahoe Food Hub Tahoe Food Hub is building a food system that supports regenerative farming practices by increasing access to local food for North Lake Tahoe.

By addressing local food access challenges at a systems level, we create a hub for local food. The Tahoe Food Hub (TFH) is a 501(c)-3 non-profit organization based in Truckee, CA. Our mission is to provide a food system that supports regenerative and sustainable farming practices by increasing access to local food for North Lake Tahoe. A local food system benefits diversified, family farms looking

fair market opportunities while increasing access to local food for our mountain community. Our goal is to create a more equitable food system that is fair for the soil, farmer and consumer. Regenerative farming sequesters carbon into the soil which helps mitigate climate change. Our network of programs educate our community on the important role that a local food system has on our community, economy and environment. 🫐 FARM HIGHLIGHT: LoCA Blueberries 🫐

This week we’re highlighting the incredible blueberries from LoCA Blueberries in Lodi, California! These sweet summer berries are featured in this week’s Harvest Box, Fruit Box, and are also available à la carte through our online market. 🌱☀️

LoCA Blueberries utilizes sustainable farming practices and is proudly glyphosate free, growing flavorful berries with care for both people and the planet. This week’s featured variety is the San Joaquin blueberry — known for its crisp texture, sweetness, and balanced tart finish.

As the farm says:
“Are you ready for a blueberry experience that actually tastes as good as it looks? These aren’t just berries; they’re little explosions of summer sweetness. We’re talking about hand-picked, premium varieties—like those giant, crisp ‘Mighty Blues’—that are incredibly firm, sweet, with a hint of tart. Whether you’re snacking straight from the stand or topping your morning yogurt, you deserve a berry that actually delivers on flavor. Don’t settle for mediocre, grab the best of the season!”

Order now through Tuesday at 5 p.m. for weekly pickup and delivery options throughout the Tahoe region! 💙

Act now to save small farmers in California! 🌱 🍓 🍊

We need the state of California to fund LFPA, a program that has provided immense support to small farmers, local food systems, and families facing food insecurity.
California lost 10% of its farms between 2017–2022. Programs like LFPA are how we fight back — but only if the state funds them. Without these programs, we risk losing small farms throughout the state. Help keep local food local by urging your state representatives to fund LFPA!

Through this program, Tahoe Food Hub has distributed over 300,000 lbs. of fresh produce to Sierra Community House, helping provide fresh fruits and vegetables to more than 700 families weekly while supporting over 50 small family-owned regenerative farms across our region.

What is LFPA?
The Local Food Purchasing Assistance Program (LFPA) connects small farmers with food banks to provide healthy, fresh, and local food to California families in need while opening up access to a fair market for local food.

So far, LFPA has:
🧑‍🌾 → Supported 833 small farmers in California
💰 → Purchased $60 million in local food
🍽️ → Fed Californians in 53/58 counties
📈 → Provided a fair and stable market channel for farmers
🍏 → Distributed nutrient-dense produce to 55 Food Banks & Community Organizations

From Placer County peaches to El Dorado County Apples and Nevada County tomatoes, these farm boxes reflect the diversity of the people who grow and receive them — food that nourishes communities while sustaining local farms.

Take action! Call your state representatives and urge them to fund LFPA and CUSP. Link to find your representatives in our bio!

Fresh, local food making a real impact in our community

Through the Farms Together Program, Tahoe Food Hub has been able to source thousands of pounds of fresh, locally grown produce each week from small family farms for Sierra Community House. Every Tuesday, 350–400 families visit the pantry distribution, where they can access nourishing seasonal foods grown right here in our region.

Thanks to the University of California Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education Program, we were also lucky to have Kitty Oppliger stop by to share a delicious seasonal beet salad recipe and demonstrate how to turn fresh local ingredients into something simple and flavorful.

The recipe is included, be sure to save this post and try it at home! Stay tuned for more fresh, seasonal recipes coming soon.
