I don’t mean to be dramatic, but this might be the most delicious salad I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten it for lunch every single day this week and still can’t get enough!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It is now a couple of hours, and we will be at the very beginning of a New Year. We ask ourselves what is ahead, where we will be, and what do we want to do this year? Yes, we look forward to the new year - however we also look behind and see what we did.

It seems as it was just yesterday, that I was reflecting on 2024 - and now 2025. We started to reap the benefits of the building we did in 2024. The high tunnels have held up rather well. They are full (we have 5) and there are times we still think we need more room. We have to remember we are a small farm, with helpers, and loyal customers - some we met almost 20 years ago. If you know us if we have known you for 20 years, you are not just a customer, but you are family. We have been part of Heirloom Farmers Markets for the majority of our endeavor with farming in Marana. We have seen a lot of changes and growth. It has been awesome.

We did not have any major storms on the farm - but the summer heat was incredible and at times unbearable. We did not know if we would have a harvest - thankfully we did. We have had the opportunity to work with other organizations' in providing nourishing food for those who are in need. The government shut down was the biggest challenge for us this year. So many in need - programs did not know where the funding would come from for those in need. We had to "think outside the box" and somehow, we did it! Our workers were paid; we had to wait on ordering some of our seed which of course throw our planting schedule off. This has caused some of our veggies to be behind in growing. We will continue to feel some of the effects for a few months.

We will see what the future holds for us. There are plans that are in place and now we will look forward to 2026!!

This so good! Yes - do it! You WILL be rewarded!

If I didn’t plant this cabbage in September…
I wouldn’t be harvesting today.
Farming is about timing and obedience to seasons. There are windows in agriculture when you honour them, they reward you. When you delay, the market teaches you lessons. Sometimes painfully.

That orchard you’ve postponed “until next rainy season”that delay might be the reason your harvest is pushed back years.
That crop you keep pushing forward… may just be the breakthrough that changes your farm, your business, your finances if only you planted when you said you would.
In agriculture, procrastination has a cost.
Every delayed planting shifts your calendar.
Every missed window reduces your cycles.
Before you know it, the year is gone and you only did one production cycle not because land wasn’t available, not because climate stopped you, but because you waited too long
Sometimes your biggest testimony, your greatest success, your next elevation is hidden in that crop you keep postponing.
Do it. Plant it. Start it. Honour the season.
Because agriculture rewards those who move with time, courage and discipline.

THANKSGIVING 2025

Larry and I have been reflecting quite a bit this past month. Maybe because we are getting older. maybe wiser, OR just grateful for the abundance of support we have received in all we have attempted. Of all the things we have done farming has always been in our lives in some way, shape, or form. We love what we do - sometimes frustrating, sometimes scary, but always grateful. In the last five years we have gone through many changes in the way we do things on the farm.

Oh, how our life changed - we were not going to farm anymore when we moved to Tucson - then Larry got the "itch" again - lol. From a small backyard garden here in the Marana to five acres. From doing much by hand, to a rototiller, to a small tractor. From growing everything in the ground to now growing in raised beds AND ground. Sharing the bounty with our neighbors, to donating to the Marana Food Bank, to being introduced to the LOCAL Farmers market scene. Oh how our life changed - This all started as were turning fifty - yikes!

This year has been stressful - however through it all we are blessed that we can still do this thing called farming. We are grateful and deeply blessed with all the vendors, customers, and organizations we have been introduced to.

Please have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends. Turkey (or not in Larrys case), football or not, just enjoy the spirit of the day whatever you do.

The Rincon Valley Farmers & Artisans Market will be closed this Saturday, November 22nd due to a road closure on Old Spanish Trail for the El Tour de Tucson bike race.
