Microgreen Negatives!

Like everything there are negatives to Microgreens.

It doesn’t affect your health in a bad way. In the long run eating 2 to 3 cups of vegetables a day you can get the same amount of nutrients you get from the small amount of microgreens you add to a meal or two. So the negative is only the cost. But if you have the money to spend or the time to grow then this isn’t a concern for you!

Best way to store your micro greens!

I know what you’re thinking, MASON JARS! But no. They are not the best option seeing that there is no room for air flow. It will cause wilting and mold growth.
So get a CRISPER place a paper towel in there and your microgreens will survive days longer. This is if you have bought them of course.
If you grow them it’s best to cut only what you need and continue to grow what’s left of your microgreens up to the point that you have no choice but to harvest the rest.
Hope you enjoyed this tidbit Green Thumbs! 🌳🧤👍🏾👍🏻👍🏼👍🏽👍🏿

Microgreen Onions: How to Grow!
Materials:
*5x5 trays (with holes) (every tray you are using to plant in you will need an empty one to place on top)
*spray bottle
*seeds
*shears
*shaker bottle (for the seeds, up to you).

PLANTING
Step 1: take your trays and fill them with the soil of your choice. Make sure the soil is thoroughly watered.
Step 2: spread your seeds over the top of the dampened soil. Make sure the seeds don’t touch.
Step 3: sprits the tray/s with water. Then take an empty tray with no holes and cover your seeds so they can germinate in complete darkness. Leave for 3/4 days. You most likely won’t need to water them at all during this time.

GROWING
Step 4: at this point they should have sprouted and are trying to push the tray that’s on top of them up depending on how deep the trays are. Take the top tray off and place it under artificial light for 8-12 hours a day.

HARVESTING
Step 5: Your microgreen onions are ready to harvest when they reach 4 inches. When harvesting you want to clip half an inch above the soil. We do this because you can get a second harvest from the greens. best thing about Microgreen onions is that you don’t have to harvest them all at once. But do keep in mind that the Microgreen flavor will change the longer you let them grow. If you pull from your second harvest you can actually just pull them out completely.

STORING?
Step 6: bag/container. Place your microgreens in there with a paper towel to ensure that healthy green color and crispness of the Microgreen. It should stay in your fridge for about a week before going bad. DO NOT rinse them until you plan on using them. This will help them stay fresh longer. If you pull the second grow you can keep the send husk on or chop them off, completely up to you. Won’t change how long they stay fresh.

I hope you enjoy and decide to grow and/or try microgreen onions. The best part aside from the bold flavor are no tears in the kitchen!
