Orchard update 🍎

The trees have only been in the ground 9 days and they’re already starting to bud and push new growth.

I won’t let them fruit. Once the blossoms open, I’ll pinch them off so the trees focus all their energy on growth and establishing roots.

Long-term payoff over short-term fruit.

It took all weekend… plus Friday…

but all 112 apple trees are finally planted.

Right now it’s just rows of small trees…

but next spring, when all of these bloom at once, this whole place is going to look completely different.

200 trees showed up yesterday…

Only got 4 rows planted so far.

One piece of advice if you’re planning something this crazy:

If you’re over 50… have friends.

Actually… have LOTS of friends 😅

I dug 60 of the 112 apple tree holes by hand.

Not because I’m crazy.
Because the person with the equipment forgot me.

So now it’s on record.

When the story gets told later…
It was a blizzard.
Minus 30.
Barefoot.
Hand spade.
