After 10 years as Oliver’s Butcher Shop, we’d like to announce the new chapter:
Oliver’s Butcher Shop is becoming Calhoun’s Butcher Shop.
My name is Garett Calhoun, and I am the new owner of the butcher shop. About a year ago, Rusty asked me about the possibility of buying the shop. At the time, it was just a conversation. Earlier this year, that conversation became a real opportunity, and after a lot of thought and conversations with my family and close friends, we decided to take the next step.
The Calhoun family has farmed for several generations and has been rooted in Randolph county for a long time. Some of you may know my grandfather (Pete Calhoun) and parents (Don and Dana Calhoun). My father and I have been growing our cow/calf operation and selling freezer beef directly to customers for roughly the last 10 years. Many of those years we have been sending our cattle to Oliver’s. Being able to now take that next step and be involved in processing is something I have wanted to pursue for a while.
I want to sincerely thank Rusty and Ronda for the opportunity and, more importantly, for everything they have built over the past 10 years. They quite literally started this business from scratch—including turning the old barn in their backyard into the butcher shop that stands today. They built a reputation for quality, consistency, prompt service, transparency, and treating people right. I have a tremendous amount of respect for that, and my goal is to maintain those same principles while slowly building the business into the future.
I also want to recognize Amber Peters, Matt Collins, Mike Gessler, and Macy Godown. Their experience, hard work, and dedication have helped build this business and keep it running, and I am very grateful to have them continuing on with us.
For the existing customers, not much is changing.
The location and phone numbers are staying the same.
The products and the way we do business will remain the same.
Existing orders and butcher dates are still booked and will be honored.
The page will remain the same although you will see the name change a few days after this posting.
We will be making a few small changes over time, including adjusting our hours to make it easier for working customers to pick up orders and shop our retail selection. These are not immediate changes and are still in the works, so we would appreciate your patience on this.
Our goal is simple: continue serving the customers who have trusted Oliver’s over the years, earn the trust of new customers, and grow slowly while remaining an honest, dependable, community-minded business.
We’re excited, grateful, and ready for this next chapter.
Welcome to Calhoun’s Butcher Shop.
If you have questions, ask them in the comments and we will respond the best that we can. Come in and see us, and please share the news with your friends and family!
