Dinner-in-a-Bag: Update

Since Oct 29 at 10:00 PM, we’ve put out 60 free “Dinner-in-a-Bag” meals. Each bag includes a printed recipe and all the shelf-stable ingredients for a main and a simple side/dessert. Bags are set out by the Market’s front door, 24/7. Please take what you need and leave the rest so others can find one. We’ll keep stocking them as long as funds allow, each bag costs under $10 to assemble.

A lot of you have asked how you can help—thank you. Here’s the info:

Ways to give (Union Market “Dinner In A Bag” account):
• In store: Apply cash, check, or card to “Dinner In A Bag” account.
• By mail: P.O. Box 886, Union, OR 97883 (memo: Dinner In A Bag).
• By phone: 541-562-5424 during business hours for a card payment.
• Venmo:

Thanks to several very generous donors, we’ve already raised over $1,000. It’s making a real difference.

Others lending a hand:
• LeBebe Cakes (La Grande): Nov 2–8 — Free take-home meals for La Grande-area residents impacted by the SNAP shutdown (show Oregon EBT; one per day; recipient must be present, will continue until benefits are restored or funds run out). Donations welcome; base cost about $5/meal.
• Jimmy B’s BBQ (La Grande): Quietly feeding anyone who’s hungry and can’t pay. Message them or stop by; “pay it forward” donations accepted.

Dinner-in-a-Bag: Free Meals Available

We’ve set out a limited number of Dinner-in-a-Bag kits for anyone who could use a little help today. Each bag includes simple, shelf-stable ingredients plus a printed recipe card.

Note on contents: Many items are close to or past their “best by” dates from recent closeouts. These foods are shelf-stable and safe when unopened; quality (texture/flavor) may be slightly reduced. If anything looks damaged or compromised, please let us know and we’ll replace it.

Please take only what you need so we can share with more neighbors.
Suggested limit: 1 bag per household per day.
Location: On Main Street near our front doors
Hours: 24-7 While supplies last

If you don’t need one today, consider leaving a bag for someone who does. If you’d like to support this effort, feel free to reach out to Anna or Justin at the Market and ask how you can help.

📣 Calling all community members—especially those with backyard chickens laying like crazy! 🐔🥚❤️

This Saturday, August 9th, during the Grassroots Festival, our amazing local VFW Post 4060 will be hosting one of their few fundraising breakfasts—and we’re helping them gather supplies!

We’re hoping to collect 15–20 dozen eggs to help make it happen.

If you’ve got hens who are in overdrive or just want to support a good cause, we’d love your help!

VFW 4060 supports our town in so many ways—from honoring veterans to helping local families—and these breakfasts are one of the only ways they raise funds to continue their amazing work.

Please drop off egg donations at the store today or tomorrow.

Alternatively, we can also take monetary donations in the form of a payment onto their store charge account, just ask our employees to to make a payment on the VFW account!

Let’s rally together and support those who always show up for our community. 🇺🇸
