📦 When Doing Everything Right Still Isn't Enough...

Running a small business means putting our heart into every order, every message, and every box we ship out.
So it's tough when, even after doing everything right, we still end up on the defense.

This week from one customer:
1. An order was fulfilled and shipped — only for a cancellation request to come after it was already in transit.
2. A request to return food items — something we can’t accept due to health & safety policies clearly stated on our site.
3. A claim that the product “smelled off,” even though it was delivered within 3 days (and we expedited priority service at our own expense).

We stayed professional. We stayed polite. We even stayed quiet — because one negative review can hurt us more than most people realize. 😞

As small business owners, we don't have corporate legal teams or customer service departments in 10 time zones. It's just us — doing our best every day.

So here’s a gentle reminder:
Support small businesses the way we often unquestioningly support billion-dollar giants.
We’re not perfect, but we care more than you know. ❤️

And to all of our customers, especially our repeat customers. We see you, and appreciate YOU!

This sambal is a heartfelt tribute to Karthy's Amma (mom), Siva, and her love for bringing people together through food. "It’s a recipe I’ve grown up with and one I absolutely adore!" 🍴

to a bittersweet night when SouthEATS x LAOboratory x FatBrothers came together to ring in Lao New Year at Dhom. ✨🇱🇦

A night filled with vibrant flavors, old friends and new faces, and cherished traditions — from a special Lao New Year tasting menu to string blessings given by their matriarch.

Today, both Dhom and Kheyo have sadly closed their doors. With their absence, NYC no longer has a single authentic Lao restaurant — a reminder of how vital it is to celebrate, support, and preserve our culture, our cuisine, and the spaces that hold them.

Here’s to honoring the past and carrying the spirit forward — through every dish, every story, and every gathering. 🙏🏽
