Imagine a bustling marketplace of homegrown Central New York goods on a sunny afternoon. Well, that’s the vision of the new Oneida County Public Market, located in the heart of Downtown Utica. On Saturdays thru summer and into fall, this new gathering place will be a hub for the sale of fresh and unique products and a festival-like atmosphere of entertainment, art and family. The vision here combi
nes an active farmer’s market with the planned revitalization of the long-empty REA building, adjacent to Historic Union Station. The Public Market will begin in 2011 in the parking lot but, may expand into the building as early as 2012. Spearheaded by Oneida County with support of the Cornell Cooperative Extension and other stakeholders, the new Public Market will be a jewel of potential and promise, as we celebrate our local economy and regional bounty.
