Over 40% savings. That was the result when Spectrum News reporter Melissa Krull compared a basket of everyday grocery items that she purchased at Bargain Grocery against prices at national big box stores in the area during her live report at 5 on Wednesday.

Melissa recently did a story on rising grocery costs and how families across our region are finding ways to save money. As part of the segment, she visited our store and put our prices to the test by shopping for everyday grocery items.

Her total came to $28.73. She then compared the same items to national big box stores in the area and found the total would have been $51.

Melissa shared how surprised she was by the difference in price and by how much customers can save on everyday essentials at Bargain Grocery.

HOT OFF THE TRUCK!!! We have new first crop southern fruit arriving at 9:30 AM. This is the best produce of the year, trucked in fresh from the southern part of the U.S. For more details check the comments.

Angus Chuck Tender Roast . Usually limited but we have more than usual.

Fresh southern peaches and nectarines. This is the time to get them for canning. These first crop southern peaches are the best of the season. Calling someone a “southern peach” is a compliment because of how sweet and wonderful they are. Check comments ⬇

Blueberries from SunBelle are southern blueberries trucked straight to us overnight from the farms. These are going to be some of the best blueberries of the season. Check comments ⬇

We have fresh bouquet flowers, and they will be available at 9:00 AM Thursday morning.

We have frozen wild North Atlantic lobster tails. These will not last. If we advertise it, I recommend that you get here and grab it. Don’t wait, because there is no guarantee they will not sell out.

We brought in a fresh batch from the Amish farmer. More Amish hanging flowers.

Managers told me today that they heard our customers, and cold cuts are going to be sliced super thin now. I was told they will be “thinner than my patience on Monday morning”🤣

Chilean Sea Bass. This is the fish that fancy restaurants serve. Me? I’m taking it and making a miso, mirin, sake, soy sauce, and brown sugar marinade, then broiling it.

Rotisserie fully cooked marinated chicken. Perfect for cold chicken salad tonight. Put that on some Heidelberg rolls.

Driscoll’s raspberries.

Ritz crackers with garlic? Woah, where have you been all my life.

Our Hours Memorial Day is 9-3. We have flowers and flowers and more flowers. We even have some with American flags on them, perfect for Memorial Day. We also have hanging flowers. There were over 30 people waiting for them the other day.

We have restaurant distributor top sirloin steaks individually vacuum sealed. These are not like the steaks you get at a big box store. These are the steaks sold to restaurants that you normally pay big money for.

We have water 40-packs. Customers started grabbing these off the jack before we even put them on the floor. This customer grabbed 3.

Perdue Harvestland Free Range thin cut chicken breast. One thing I hate is making chicken breast thin. These are already ready to bread or cook on the grill. I used to add my BBQ sauce before grilling, but I don’t anymore. I add it at the last second so it doesn’t burn.

Lots of frozen shrimp for some shrimp on the Barbie.

Do you want to feel something? Get this Topo Chico soda water. I love it. It wakes me up without caffeine.

This Chipotle Honey Chicken is great. Slide it into some potato rolls or make some tacos and drink some Topo Chico.

Memorial Day bratwurst, 10 lbs to feed the whole party. A customer told me today: indirect heat in aluminum foil with German beer or cheap beer. Don’t boil, just simmer, then grill them on the hot side. Nothing is worse than overcooked on the outside and not done on the inside. This gives you juicy and snappy bratwurst.

Listen, get your Memorial Day tacos. I got your skirt steak. For me, skirt steaks are the best for quick cooks, and remember to cut across the grain.

Check out these fresh hamburgers. A restaurant chef that shops for his personal food here told me that the best way to grill a burger is on the warm side for 15 mins and then put it on the hot side to finish. Season when on the hot side.

We have fresh chicken wings.

Fish tacos? I need more fish in my diet, and these Mahi Mahi are perfect for tacos.

Salt potatoes. I got these as they were coming off the truck. You can’t have a Utica party without some salt potatoes.

Ezekiel Bread. Customers have said this bread is delicious and great for their blood sugar. Always freeze your bread. It lasts longer when the bread does not have preservatives and, I was told, is better for your blood sugar.

Amish farmer sending us more hanging flowers tomorrow morning. Don't know the time but I'll announce on my stories.

Get ready for Memorial Day weekend with hamburgers. We have restaurant distributor hamburgers ready for the first holiday of the summer season.

Do you want some hot dogs? We have these Stahl Meyer hot dogs. What I like to do for my hot dogs is light a fire with no lighter fluid, then put them opposite the fire and put the vent over them. Smoke them a bit, like 25 minutes. Then I put them directly over the fire. Pro tip: put them in cold water before you do this and they will not split. This makes them juicier and more flavorful.

I have some really nice lobster cakes. These will not last. Any time I advertise lobster anything, they go so fast.

How about chicken wings? While you have that fire going, do the same thing. Put them on the opposite side of the fire and cover with vents open. I like to season them with no sugar, smoke them for 50 minutes, then put them over the hot side and brush on BBQ sauce. That will ensure they are cooked through, smoky, and have BBQ flavor on them.

We have Poland Spring water. Get them right now because these are hot. Customers started buying them off the jack pallet.

Check out this box of England Best Eggs. These are some of the best eggs out there. This is 15 dozen eggs.

Roast beef in the house. Fresh Eye Round. Best way is to put it in the oven at a preheated 500 degrees and roast for 7 min per lb. Then turn it off and walk away for 2.5 hours. Cut across the grain and enjoy medium rare.

We got some great fresh 80/20 chuck ground beef.

I had a customer in the restaurant business walk out with 2 racks of ribs in front of me today. I ran and got one also.

The Matilde Vicenzi pastries are a small hit with our staff. Multiple staff members and customers are raving about these pastries/cookies. Get these for mom. Also, the tin is pretty cool.
