Last year, I completely forgot to get my ranunculus started over the winter. I was focused on my dahlias and never thought about them until it was too late to start them for my growing zone. I sure missed them in May when my tulips were finishing up and I was waiting for my peonies to bloom.

Thankfully, I did not forget this year and am getting them started now! Plus, they make a wonderful filler with those big blooms. If you have a warm, sunny window or perhaps a grow light or two, consider picking up some corms. They need a nice head start indoors but are worth the extra love! 💕

This was our very first dahlia plant grown in 2019. Little Etta, at 6 years old, loved the butterflies that hung out in this garden. The following year, 2020, we grew almost 200 dahlias along with native perennials, zinnias, sunflowers, and cosmos. Five years later, our dahlia population was 1,000 strong! I love looking back on where we began so that we can start dreaming about what this year’s growing season will look like. I’m already looking forward to the color and the learning with my girls in the gardens in 2026! What are you planning for this year? Anything new in the gardens or big goals you’re excited to tackle? We would love to cheer you on. The winter months are the best for planning!

It’s been a weekend of homecoming bouquets, boutonnières, and buckets of freshly cut flowers! The flower stand is stocked for one of our final fall weekends of blooms. I’m hoping to have some pumpkins decorated with dried flowers out later today, too. Starting garden cleanup. It’s that time of year! 🍂
