SAD NEWS FROM US AT FOOD FOR THOUGHT...
For those of you who do not already know we have decided to close our doors at the end of this month after 29 years of business. This decision was the most difficult and heart-wrenching decision we've ever had to make. As you know we have been trying to work through some difficult times over the past six months. Recently we were pursuing relocating to a smaller store and had formed a collaboration with Marcie Millar at Vitamin Smart to join forces to offer more in-depth professional supplements and dietary consultations, along with a functional food focus. In the final weeks leading up to this move we, as owners of Food for Thought, stepped back to take a closer look and ask ourselves if it is the right decision for us and our family to continue. Unfortunately for the fate of the store the answer was no. We are confident that we have made the right decision for ourselves and our family, but our heart aches for the loss to our beloved customers and the community.
It has been an honor for us and the staff to get to know you over the years. I truly couldn't imagine a better environment to work in every day. Your support and belief in what we do has kept us a vibrant, independent, small business for nearly three decades. We are eternally grateful for the opportunity, and hope to leave a legacy that others may continue in new and exciting ways in the future.
Everywhere we look we were blessed. We consistently had the best staff a retail store could ever dream of. Top-notch people with knowledge, heart, sincerity, humor, talent and creativity. They always put our customers' needs first and went above and beyond the call of duty. And the same gratitude goes for you, our customer. You have been loyal, kind, and have always opened your heart to our mission and to us personally. Over time you generously donated your collective wisdom about health and wellness, and you went out of your way to support us. We couldn't be more grateful. A special thank-you to those who shared their expertise in our educational classes over the past few months.
Let's all remember the best that the store had to offer to the community. We should celebrate this wonderful, unique journey together. Thank you for the great memories such as our spectacular 20th & 25th Anniversary celebrations, and the cozy 2014 Local Craft Holiday Fair. And thank you to all of the passionate local farms and food creators for supplying us with the healthiest local products available.
While it is time that Food For Thought as a retail store ends, it is possible we may keep the brand alive in other venues. For example, we know many of you will miss the organic grass-fed beef from Maine and other quality meat selections that were unique to Food for Thought and not available at all of the nearby grocery stores. So stay tuned via email and Facebook for news of us keeping that going.
We encourage you to keep your patronage focused on the other local, small independent establishments in the area. For example, Marcie Millar at Vitamin Smart is a highly experienced Licensed Dietary Nutritionist and is able to offer expert advice on diet and supplement plans for all health conditions. She has a great selection of supplements on hand and I know that she can order almost any of the supplements we've carried. If you're a Solgar fan, we suggest Wakefield Prescription. For prepared healthy foods, herbs, bulk items, and truly nutritious foods we suggest the South County Food Co-Op. If you're willing to travel don't forget about Back to Basics in East Greenwich.
Everyone always said how great the store smelled. We're not sure what the smell used to be but we're pretty sure over the past year it's Bob Baxter's Helios products being bottled in our basement. So if you're nostalgic for the smell we suggest you grab a bottle!
Thank you for being great family members, friends, healers and lovers of all things healthy! I hope our paths cross soon and until then please keep your spirit alive among the local small businesses.
Sincerely,
Kristina & Jonathan Wilk
