The breed is originally from the Austria-Hungary area, and was quite popular there during the last hundred years for its incredible succulent taste, red-beef-like meat, and wooly-sheep-like coat. However, over the last hundred years, the local farmers began to lose interest in raising them, as the farmers chose to raise leaner pigs that could be raised to market weight much quicker. The breed was
close to extinction not so many years ago. Then, over the last few years, chefs and the culinary world began to realize that fat and marbling in meat provided all of the desired flavor. So, farmers searched around for such a pig and rediscovered the Mangalitsa. We are located in Walton, New York and excited about our pigs!
