🎉 BIG NEWS FROM BOLAR FLAT MARINA! 🎉

As many of you know, the marina dock has been a hot topic over the past year. We've received countless questions about when the dock would be fully accessible again, when the lights would be back on for nighttime safety, when boaters could tie up at the dock and when wet storage would become available.

For what has felt like a very long journey, our answer has often been, "We're working on it!" Between repairs, approvals, inspections and coordinating with multiple teams, it has truly been a process.

Today, we're thrilled to share some exciting news!

The team hired by the Forestry is currently on-site completing the proper reconnection of the dock cables and the electrical repairs were completed several weeks ago. With approvals now in place, the dock is officially back up and running for its intended uses!

🚤 Wet storage is now available for watercraft.
🚤 Boaters may temporarily tie up at the dock to access the store or restrooms.
🚤 The dock is safely accessible for walking during both daytime and nighttime hours.
🚤 Dock lighting is operational, providing improved visibility and safety.

Please note that the no-fishing-from-the-dock restriction remains in effect. Other dock activities, however, are now available and ready to enjoy!

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Forestry staff, the crews currently working on the dock cables, the electricians who helped restore power and the engineers and approval teams who helped bring this project to completion. This truly took a team effort and we appreciate everyone who played a role.

Most importantly, thank YOU for your patience, support and understanding throughout this process. We know many of you have been eagerly awaiting this announcement and we're just as excited to finally share it!

🏕️ Campgrounds Update 🏕️
Lake Moomaw, Warm Springs, Virginia

As announced by the Forestry, the campground restrooms and shower facilities are temporarily unavailable while repairs are being made to the water treatment plant.

For the 2026 season:

Loops 2 and 3 are closed for the season.
Sugar Ridge, Loop 1 and McClintock Campgrounds are open on a first-come, first-served basis only.
A limited number of sites with water and electrical hookups are available.

Outdoor rinse-off showers are available at the beach; however, they do not provide hot water. For guests seeking a warm shower option, solar showers are available for purchase at the marina store and can be heated naturally by the sun.

A complimentary outdoor water spigot is available at the marina store for guests needing access to fresh water.

We also ask for everyone's cooperation in maintaining clean and sanitary facilities. Under no circumstances should RV black tanks, gray water or other waste be emptied into the portable toilets. These units are intended for standard restroom use only and are only serviced once per week on Wednesdays. Improper dumping creates unsanitary conditions, unpleasant odors and negatively impacts the experience of fellow campers and staff.

Update: A very generous customer has donated their generator and Jack at Lyndsey Electrical has graciously donated a pig tail! Thank you so much!

Locals: Does anyone local have a generator and a pigtail I could borrow for a week for my camper? I'm at the marina, preparing for a potentially really bad storm and I won't receive my generator or pigtail until next week. Last time we lost power, it was for a few days. 😩

Here at Bolar Flat Marina & Store… we cherish all of our guests. Whether they have two legs, four legs or some wings!

While I didn’t get a picture of the two little fledglings due to safety reasons (for them), I have included a picture of the box that I kept them in last night in my camper. Long story short, it was absolute shenanigans and chaos. At 5:45 AM, they were safely put back in the exact spot that they had fallen out of and mama was back within 45 minutes. I almost cried because I was so happy.

Later today, mama came over loudly chirping outside of my camper window getting my attention, where she was, literally, staring at me. When I looked at her, she stopped chirping and perched there for another 10 seconds looking at me (kinda felt like two mamas understanding each other for just a moment) or so and went straight back to her nest.

Hey everyone! Here’s a quick update for you all from Margery Barton, Public Relations:

Following up on the power outage:
* Our restrooms are now closed since we can’t run the water pumps.
* We expect the store (and restrooms) to reopen by Wednesday or Thursday this week. This is just a temporary pause. Once it’s fixed, we’ll have water again as usual.

Campground updates:
* McClintock Campground: open now, first come, first serve, primitive.
* Sugar Ridge Campground & Loop 1: opening May 15th, also primitive, with porta potties, first come, first serve.
* Once the store is up and running with power and water, we will have free water available from the outside spigot of the store for all campers.

Fishing reminder:
* If you’re fishing, don’t forget your license! You can grab one quickly on the Go Outdoors VA app. It’s just a few taps and you’re ready.

Please note:
While the store is closed, we are still here to help! Stop by our camper at the marina (right by the dock) for anything you need.

Temporarily Cash only for:
* Camping gear
* Souvenirs
* Fishing gear
* Limited boat supplies
* Shelf stable food, drinks and snacks
* Firewood
* Solar showers
* Hygiene and health products

Temporarily unavailable:
* Fuel
* Refrigerated items (ice, ice cream or cold drinks)
* Wi-Fi at the store, but if there’s an emergency, come by the camper and we’ll help with any calls.

Stay tuned for more updates, especially mid-next week, when we’ll know more about the power and water situation at the marina.

Sad to say we have no power at the convenience store until the middle of next week due to a tree falling on powerlines and there is no access. They have to make access to get it repaired. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will get the store back up and running as soon as the power comes back on.

Take at look at this! So excited to hang these in the store. We have 2 sizes that will be available for purchase. I will post more once I get all the particulars together. Looking forward to seeing all of you this year. Remember the store will be open April 15 through October 15 this year. We are headed back to the east coast the first week of march!!!
