Dwarf tomato plants don't equal tiny tomatoes.
The compact plants are great for smaller spaces. In my tiny tunnel, I can trellis the indeterminate heirlooms down the center, but there isn't enough height on the side beds. Well, dwarf plants, like this purple heart variety, fill the space beautifully.
The dwarf tomato project has come up with some interesting varieties. Check them out!

One of the more effective methods for preventing crop damage is exclusion by means of fabric row cover. The covers prevent some level of pest and disease from reaching the crops - especially when they are at their most vulnerable stages. It's not perfect - the covers don't filter out 100%, and it's annoying to put them on and take them off, and sometimes it gets too hot in there. But it keeps the plants alive and healthy. It would be foolish to disregard such a valuable preventative tool at times when pest and disease pressure is high. It's so much easier to prevent problems than to deal with them after they have become problems. @ Warrington, Pennsylvania

It's hard for me to not feel guilty at times for feeling good about something when so much seems pretty sh*tty for others or for ourselves. But this - harvesting salad mix in the shade, on a breezy morning is definitely one of my happy places. I'm appreciating it now for a moment...and then back to sad/angry/hopeful/hopeless/irritable and so on.

Checking in on some garlic; now I'm checking in on you. If you or someone you know in the central bucks area is immunocompromised or in a high risk segment of the population, and need supplies over the next few weeks as things spike, but don't have anyone to run out for you, well I have a pickup truck and some time, so email me and we'll set up a plan. There are some crops that either grow very slowly or take up a lot of space, and are hard to justify growing on a small farm (financially speaking.) is one of these. There are also some crops where feedback is too good to pass on growing them. Broccoli is one of these.
So as we wrap up the season this week, I just want to thank everyone who has supported this farm throughout the year, even if that means just smiling and saying how pretty something is. It is farmer fuel for sure, and it helps us know what you want to eat!

Oops! Looks like I missed a few heads of lettuce when I was trying to get everybody covered up last night in the dark. Some of these harvest days just run a little too late. Only a couple more markets left
