The face of one of our behind the scenes workers, taking flowers to his three year old niece. There's a lot of work behind the finished product that often isn't acknowledged. And so I dedicate this post to my Dad and brother for all their tireless hard work and the things they do on a daily to keep the flower enterprise running smoothly. Anything from covering plants with row cover to prevent frost damage, to mulching the plants to ensure they have all the proper nutrients needed to produce healthy, hearty plants. It has definitely been a learning experience and we learn as we fail and then try again !

I have been posting pictures of beautiful flowers, signs of spring, new life and hope. Tonight I will be posting a couple pictures of the harsh realities of being a small flower farmer at the mercy of the elements. Saturday afternoon we experienced some extremely high winds, here in Coshocton County, with 75 mph gusts. Unfortunately despite our best efforts to secure our greenhouse, we eventually needed to make the difficult decision to cut the plastic to save the structure. Fortunately we were able to save the structure, but now comes the hard part of repairing the structure and then putting on new plastic, unfortunately a lot of work at a very busy time of the year ...So far we have been able to cover the tulips with row cover to prevent frost damage which has been a huge blessing. Had we received these winds earlier in the season we would have experienced a complete crop loss, which is huge for a fledgling small business. So, yes, we are definitely grateful for the blessing of warmer temperatures.
