March is International Women’s Month, and we’re raising a glass to the women redefining the wine & spirits world.
From founders and owners to master distillers, blenders and winemakers, these women are making HERstory. Here are a few of the women-led brands we’re proud to carry at Calvert Woodley:
🍷 – Founded by sisters Robin McBride and Andréa McBride John, one of the largest Black-owned wine companies, producing vibrant wines inspired by California’s Central Coast and New Zealand.
🌵 – Created by master distiller and CEO Melly Barajas, with her all-female staff, this tequila is handcrafted in the highlands of Jalisco and bottled in its signature recycled glass.
🍸 – Right here in DC, this women-owned distillery led by Pia Carusone and Rachel Gardner, produces craft vodka, gin, and bourbon with some serious local pride.
🥃 – Led by CEO Fawn Weaver, this award-winning whiskey brand honors the legacy of Nearest Green, the first known African American master distiller in the U.S. (fun fact: Green’s great-great granddaughter, Victoria Butler is the current Master Blender!)
🍹 – Founded by Maria Mojica, this artisanal, exotic and distinctly different rum-based natural spirit is 100% made in the Dominican Republic.
🍇 – Family-owned and led by winemaker Jill Russell, co-proprietors Katherine and Julia Jackson, and their mother, Barbara Banke owner and proprietor, Cambria highlights the elegance of Santa Maria Valley.
🌵 – Co-founded by Shivam Mallick Shah, Lindsey Davis Stover and Alison Kiehl Friedman, this tequila celebrates heritage and craftsmanship while highlighting women in the traditionally male-dominated tequila industry.
🥃 – Under the guidance of legendary Master Blender Gillian Macdonald, Ardbeg continues to push the boundaries of Islay Scotch whisky.
🍋🟩 – Founded by DC native Tiffany Capri, T Capri is a luxury tequila brand rooted in authenticity, community, and celebrating culture through every pour.
