My first attempt at bagel baking. My master taste tester pronounced them delicious, but hinted they would be ever so much better drenched in cinnamon and sugar. His tastebuds are so predictable!

I wanted beautiful flowers for my daughter’s celebration and Jodie delivered in a big way!

My first introduction to this gorgeous flower farm came years ago when my daughter gifted a bouquet to me on Mother’s Day. Now anytime I am in Kane County I visit the Batavia Farmer’s Market for Jodie’s flowers.

Last weekend I drove to Fox Flower Farm and Jodie shared what must be the last of her garden’s flowers with me.

I feel such gratitude for the hands that grew these beautiful flowers! Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

One of the delicious cheese and charcuterie boards from
chi-cuterie.com in Geneva. Everything on the board was fresh and artfully displayed! I barely had time to photograph as the moment I set them out, guests were wanting to graze!

The apple trees have been resplendent with fruit this fall. This beauty is a McIntosh tree. I cooked those pretty apples for about sixteen hours. Six pounds of apples cooked down to six jars of apple butter. The house smells of cinnamon, clove and mace. I used Muscovado sugar which yielded a rich, brown, spicy fruit butter.

Feeling summers last gasp. Hoping my little garden will grace me with another bouquet or two.

What’s better on a rainy, autumn Sunday than a big pot of chili simmering on the stove?

My cozy cabin is fragrant with warm notes of cumin and chilies. I threw everything but the kitchen sink at this batch. Roasted poblanos, jimmie nardellos and jalepenos paired with smoky roasted garlic and tomato fresh from the garden.

wayfarer is sure to put her photograpy skills to good use once this hearty concoction is ladled into bowls and topped grated Wisconsin super sharp cheddar. I love my chili with a splash of vinegar, dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of cilantro. And what is it about chili that makes me crave peanut butter? What toppings do you favor on chili?
