LAST CALL!
It's hard to believe it's that time of year already. We have been blessed with blue skies most of the Summer and faithful vendors to connect you with our local food scene. Please use this opportunity to thank them personally for their appearance at Shastina Community Certified Market each week. They are an amazing group of people, as many of you know. And they have more to bring this week! SCM will run from 5-7pm at Hoy Park in Lake Shastina.

This week's entertainment will be provided by RichieG. When I first heard him perform at the Mount Shasta Farmer's Market, his music reminded me of all my favorite vacations! We hope you will join us for this mini-vacation at today's Shastina Community Certified Market.

As a Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter, Richie G shares contemporary, traditional and original music in an acoustic format. Featuring voice, guitar and ukulele, he moves from pop, folk, country and Hawaiian to keep us smiling (and moving)!

Today's market will also feature produce by BLACK OAK VINEYARD & FARM (Dale Walker) and THUNDERBIRD PRODUCE (Mike & Rebekah Roe). The Bridwell Family at CATTLE CALL are bringing their amazing selection of locally grown beef. MOUNTAIN ROOTS COFFEE ROASTERS (aka Tyler Morrison) will be there with beans for your next java jolt.

If you are a Cal Fresh recipient, you can purchase at Shastina Community Market with your EBT card. Also available is Market Match (up to $20) to increase your buying power. Spread the word!

Also planning to sell this week is Matthew Villanueva with his leather works from Dunsmuir.

From our team of wonderful volunteers (mostly behind the scene), we would like to thank you for supporting Shastina Community Market this year. We plan to be back next Summer a little bigger but with the same small market personality.

The events of September 2nd left each of us with a different story to tell, and perhaps a different perspective on life in general. Our condolences to those families who lost loved ones, their homes, their pets and all their valuables. SFA is here to do what we can for those needing food, and many other agencies have stepped in to ease the burden these families carry.

After attending several community events in the last 10 days, I was particularly impressed with one survivor telling me that attending was also good for them. The chance to see their scattered neighbors and give them a hug was good to begin their healing process.

With that in mind, we will resume our own community event today. Most of our usual vendors will be there to sell you their very best fresh veggies & meat. If you don't need any of that today, consider coming just to listen to Kolby Stancil's music, see some friends, share your own stories and begin your own healing.

A book signing and Dave Villareal on guitar! Today at SCM, Hoy Park 5-7pm.
Food Pantry volunteer and W**d resident, Anna Grossnickle Hines, has a secret past. Between 1981 and 2017 she wrote and/or illustrated sixty-nine books for children. The great majority of those books are now out-of-print, but Anna has a limited supply of a few titles that she is offering to help support Siskiyou Food Assistance.

In the mid-nineties, inspired by her mother’s quilting, Anna began illustrating some of her books with fabric. The first, PIECES: A YEAR IN POEMS AND QUILTS, won numerous honors including the Lee Bennett Hopkins Award for Excellence in Poetry. Anna followed it with two more quilt and poetry collections, WINTER LIGHTS and PEACEFUL PIECES: POEMS AND QUILTS ABOUT PEACE, and for younger children 1,2 BUCKLE MY SHOE, each of which received multiple starred reviews. These books make nice gifts for quilters and poetry lovers of all ages, as well as children.

Anna is offering copies of four of her out-of-print books to benefit Siskiyou Food Assistance. I’ll be at the Shastina Community Market on Tuesday, August 16, in Hoy Park from 5-7 to share and sign books. Make a minimum $20 donation to SFA and receive a personally signed book.

For those who don’t know me—which is pretty much everyone!—I’m a retired author and illustrator with 69 published books, now living in W**d with my husband Gary Hines who grew up in Mount Shasta. Hope to meet and chat with some of you!

It's National Farmers Market Week!

Many produce items are in full swing at local markets, ours is not exception. It is a perfect time to celebrate Farmer's Markets all over the USA. Beside grabbing the freshest, most nutritious and prettiest produce around, there's the added benefit of meeting the people that grow your food. Thank them for all of their hard work and get to know them as friends. It's a great community of people who care deeply for the quality of food they produce and of customers looking for food grown in that manner. AND, the chance to meet some neighbors!
