Witte's Vegetable Market LLC is an IPM Vegetable farm focused on providing West Bend, Jackson, and our surrounding communities with the best and freshest vegetables and fruits. We have a farm store open 7 days a week where 90% of all items are grown on our farm. We also attend the West Bend Farmers Market on Saturday mornings where we sell 100% of what we grow. The farm was started by Dad and Mom

in 1992 with the purchase of 56 acres. Since that time we have acquired more land, built a few more buildings, and rebuilt the original building after a fire 4 years ago. We currently farm about 50 acres of vegetables with another 10 acres left for cover crops to rotate and maintain soil health. Every year we start with asparagus and end with items such as brussel sprouts, winter squash, beets, potatoes, and carrots. The main crop season for us is usually from the end of July through the end of September. During that time you will find Pickles, Sweet Corn, Musk Melon, Watermelon, Tomatoes, Peppers, and about 20 other different vegetables.

July 29th- if you want peaches

No michigan or Pennsylvania peaches this year. Was told we maybe have 2 weeks left of Illinois before their season is over. They are freestone and super sweet and juicy. I am taking a risk and ordering a pallet for this Friday to go along with the 40 that arrived today. Price per case is $50. If you want to guarantee a case make sure to call and reserve your box. Pick up will begin Saturday. 262-338-4588.

July 28th- what you will find this morning

Well, that cold front was much needed. Not only did it bring cooler temperatures but it also brought with it much needed rain. However, the rain also brought muddy fields. We made the decision to not pick pickles this morning, but we do still have bags of pickles in the cooler from yesterday. We may go out tonight and pick once things firm up but that is yet to be determined. Sweet corn has been picked and is waiting for you. I am currently cutting curly head lettuce and we are basically cutting 30 to 40 heads fresh every morning. We are out of peaches currently but Dad and Mom are headed to fox lake around lunch time to grab our next shipment. The boys are in the hoop houses picking grape tomatoes. Lastly, we now have green peppers. Other produce: blueberries, zuchinni, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, cucumbers, garlic, onions, potatoes, honey, maple syrup.

July 27th- unfiltered

It's rough it's raw it's unfiltered. I don't apologize for asking people to be held to standards that they request from others. That water eventually will settle out and deposit the sediment somewhere far down the watershed. I love my city but man has this been an ongoing issue for years. Also yes it directly affects my business which is why I get passionate about it.

July 26th- can confirm

Well, I hope you all have found yourselves inside and in the air conditioning by now. I on the other hand can confirm that it is still a sauna outside at 8:45 tonight. While I always love picking corn morning of, the threat of severe weather and thunderstorms tomorrow had me thinking I better get ahead. So when we open tomorrow we will have sweet corn. It is now time for me to make my way home and get into the air conditioning.

July 26th- help us out

Hey everyone the weekends have been getting busier and busier and I am asking you to help us out. Please if you pull in and the lot looks full just drive through and park out on the grass where myself and my employee's park. We have explored options to work with the pipeline to expand our parking lot. All of which, we feel, would open Pandora's box and leave us with far less control over our hard earned land. Tentatively we are going to try and move our greenhouse and expand to the west for next season. So once again please help us keep everyone safe and park on the lawn instead of waiting and blocking the entrance.

July 24th- cleaning the toilet

There is a saying I heard recently, "always let your employees see you clean the toliet." Well, we don't have any toilets to clean but today we did have cauliflower to tie. Most business owners strive to get to a point where tasks like this are in their rear view mirror. However, I have seen my dad tie cauliflower in his sixties and I still do it now at 40. It's not fun, your back is a little sore after but overall it keeps moral high and builds camaraderie with my high schoolers. Which I feel goes a long way and that long way keeps our quality high and the work completed. Produce available: sweet corn, tomatoes, kohlrabi, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, onions, potatoes, grape tomatoes, peaches, blueberries, garlic, green beans, beets, cauliflower, broccoli, zuchinni. July 23rd- lots of information

Reminder we close at 4:30 today July 23rd so Tiffany and I can take the boys to the fair. Peaches and blueberries are now in. Peaches are freestone and have great flavor. We are entering our third week with blueberries. Depending on sales this week will determine if we bring in more blueberries going forward. We have plenty of 10 lb boxes for walk-ins, no need to call and order. Sweet corn has been excellent and judging by prices seen at our local grocery stores, $.90 an ear or 6 for $5 is a steal. Our final cutting of spring mix for this field is happening today. Unfortunately, we are behind and the next planting won't go into the field until tomorrow, so expect a 4 week gap. We aren't super dry yet but the forecast has little to no rain for the next 10 days so the boys and I have started moving irrigation pipe. The goal is to just keep the plants moving forward and not stalling. We can already see some of the affects with decreased pickle yields. We are currently picking everyday and also selling out everyday. Lastly, bags of onions are back in stock and big beautiful potatoes will be washed and waiting for you when we open at 9. Have a wonderful day everyone.

July 22nd- attention please

Attention please tomorrow July 23rd we will be closing at 4:30. Why? Well, it is fair week. Which means rides, funnel cakes, and grilled cheese with chocolate milk at the farm bureau stand. Nostalgia at it's best. Also I remembered the correct times and days this year to enter a few veggies. This year was absolutely loaded with items from people's gardens and farms. It truly makes my heart so happy seeing people show off their hard work. Growing veggies isn't easy but it sure can be fun and rewarding. Good luck to all who entered items.
