Another question from a follower: what are these spots on my tomato plants?

They are likely a bit of bug damage, or perhaps even a wind/ sun stress. It’s unlikely any form of disease and at this point, I’d keep monitoring the plants but wouldn’t any drastic action.

A question was posed to us: hay or straw?

When it comes to garden mulch, straw is the better choice:

* Fewer w**d seeds (especially if it’s clean straw free from oat or wheat seeds)

* Breaks down more slowly (we can usually use it over 2 seasons)

* Keeps soil moisture even

* Cleaner around vegetables

* Easier to plant through

❌ Hay can turn into a long term w**ding project as it usually contains lots of w**d seeds.

✅ Remember to apply a thick layer of straw (3”-6”) once the seedlings are established and the soil has warmed up to suppress w**ds and retain moisture.

If I’m feeling squirrelly I’ll plant some winter squash, zucchini, and melons soon too! 🧑‍🌾 ☀️
