Here's a glimpse of what happened around the farm last month!

1. Had some beautiful sunsets during evening chores.

2. Shayn and I made deliveries a few days. (Yep! We deliver bulk meat shares. 🥩)

3. We enjoyed lots of eggs, especially around Easter. Hard-boiled and deviled for the holiday. A quick scramble has been an easy breakfast most mornings too.

4. Hanging out with Woody on the back porch. She is our oldest farm cat - even older than some of my kids!

5. Fresh lilacs are my favorite part of spring.

6. Sam is the GOAT

7. We loved hosting the Kid's Entrepreneur Fair for and seeing these young business owners make their products come to life. And a huge thanks to so many of you who shopped and supported them! 💕

8. I tried roasting garlic for the first time and it was so easy! Now I'm using it in all the recipes, and also just eating it because it's delicious.

9. Our trusty mini truck that handles all the jobs on the farm. Shayn added a reminder of one of our favorite places to visit. 🌴

10&11. Hillori began teaching cooking classes here and they have been so fun! So far she's taught us about holiday hams, chili verde, and birria tacos. Everyone here loves helping clean up the leftovers too. 😊 Come join us for one of her upcoming classes!

12. Spring snow! I think this was the most snow we've received all winter.

13-15. What morning chores currently look like. Filling water troughs, pitching hay, and lots of bottles.

16-18. We started selling ice cream! Made at our dairy! From our milk and cream! We're pretty excited about it because ice cream is our favorite treat, and this one is good. Our friend, Rob, kept testing so many recipes until he got one we were all happy with. After lots of taste testing and small changes here and there, seven flavors are now in the farm store. 🍦

Many people don't realize this - one of the unique things about our farm is our butcher shop. It's right here! Literally steps away from where you buy your meat.

After working with various shops for a number of years, we kept feeling this pull to set up our own. We wanted the ability to cut according to what was needed in the store and how many bulk orders to be packaged each month.

It seemed like a daunting dream, but off we went - figuring out licensing, purchasing equipment piece by piece, setting up large freezers and coolers, and constructing the room itself. Finally, in late 2017, we were approved and received our first carcasses.

With our license, we have our red meat harvested at a USDA-inspected kill floor. The next day, the carcasses are brought to our coolers, where they dry age until they’re ready to be cut. Then we do everything here - cut, wrap, grind, season, and cure.

This proved to be such a blessing in 2020 when the world shut down. Suddenly, butcher shops were months out on processing meat. Because the only part we utilize at another facility is their kill floor, we were still able to have our animals harvested and bring the carcasses back to our farm to cut and wrap. We continued to supply meat to our community without any disruption.

I also want to give a shout-out to our crews in the shop over the years. We’ve had some incredible meat cutters making our product look its best. Our current crew is fantastic, and now with our new packaging equipment, we’re excited to offer an even better product as we transition everything over the next few months.

If you've been thinking about stocking your freezer or trying our meat for the first time, this is the "behind the scenes" of how it gets to your table! 🥩

January seems to move at a slower pace. Normally I don't like it, but honestly with the mild winter we're having I kind of enjoyed it this year! Here’s a look back at what the month held around the farm:

1. Shayn always busy feeding calves. Lots of new ones lately.

2. Winter sunsets never get old. 😍

3&4. Presenting at the Utah Farm & Food Conference in Cedar City. It’s always encouraging to connect with other farmers and talk about the importance of local food and hearing everyone's story.

5. Grandin put our sausage to good use making homemade calzones. They were awesome and I'm loving his adventures in the kitchen!

6. Jersey calves are just the sweetest.

7. Shayn in the parlor during a morning milking.

8. Our farm store team surprised me with a birthday celebration, complete with decorations - including cow balloons. 🎈

9. Winter feeding in full swing.

Plus lots of planning for the year ahead for gardens, poultry, and more. Updates to come!

Thanks for being here and part of our farm community - whether it's online or in person, we appreciate you!

December is always just extra busy here - and it really is awesome. Thank you for showing up in the farm store during the holiday season to purchase gifts, food, treats and more! Here are some of the highlights:

1. A few new arrivals.

2. Tenille & Hillori making sure things are running well in the store.

3. Two meetings with the Department of Ag about their proposed raw milk bill. 👎💩

4. Stocking up on hay for the winter.

5. My go-to drink for winter mornings: Crio Bru, raw honey, collagen, creatine, and a splash of raw cream.

6. A beautiful sunrise.

7. Shayn was cleaning up around the garden and found these. The mild weather has encouraged the carrots to grow a little. 🤯😂 Garden carrots in December and they are so good!

8. Beautiful steaks out of the butcher shop. Our shop team worked long hours in December to keep the shelves stocked and they rocked it!

9. Meggan cleaning up on the weird day when all the things dropped and spilled on the floor. 🤪

10. Grandin on the grind. Lots of grass-finished ground beef ready for the store.

11. Hillori treating us to cinnamon rolls. It's pretty nice to have a chef around here. 😋
