Welcome to our business page!

Let us introduce ourselves, the growers behind the scenes. We are Adam and Erin Zehner. We live in Olney, IL along with our four children. We have been passionate about growing food for our family for several years and have finally taken the jump to venture beyond our acres.

We are officially launching Independence Acres Produce, offering sustainably grown leafy greens through the use of hydroponics. Varieties offered will include, but not limited to, Romaine, Bibb, Spring Mix, Red and Green oak lettuces.

Follow the journey, from farm to table, both locally and around the Tri-State. 🥬

Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

After careful consideration and prayer, we are announcing that we are immediately shutting down operations in our greenhouse. We are so thankful to our customers over the past 9 years who have supported us in this venture! It was not an easy decision, and just like you, we will miss having fresh lettuce any time during the year. I think many people thought we were crazy when we announced back in 2015 that we were building a hydroponic greenhouse. Through the years, we developed great relationships with locally owned restaurants and businesses in the tri-state region, hosted many of you for greenhouse tours, and enjoyed visiting with customers that stopped by our retail shed. We’ve raised our boys in this business. It’s definitely bittersweet, but feel it’s time for a new chapter in our lives.

A couple of weeks ago, we faced an unprecedented production issue in our greenhouse. Our pH levels swung from one extreme to another due to varying factors. We hoped our younger lettuce would survive. After time and evaluation, it became clear that we were going to have to start from scratch again if we wanted to continue – something we haven’t done since our first planting in 2015. We had already been discussing how we could wind down operations later in 2025. With this event, we feel that God made it very clear that now was the time to end instead of later.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our dream a reality! We appreciate each and every one of you!
