RECIPE: 5 ways to cook a Tomahawk Steak
1. Reverse Sear
• Slow-cook the steak in the oven at a low temperature, then finish by searing it in a hot cast iron skillet or on the grill for a crispy, caramelized crust.
• Tip: Let it rest for 5-10 minutes after searing for a juicy interior.
2. Grilled Tomahawk
• Sear both sides of the steak over direct, high heat, then move to indirect heat to cook until desired doneness. Add a smoky flavor by grilling with wood chips.
• Tip: Baste with herb butter during grilling for extra richness.
3. Oven-Baked
• Rub the tomahawk with oil, garlic, and herbs, then bake in a preheated oven at 375°F until the internal temperature reaches your preferred doneness.
• Tip: Finish with a quick broil for a crispy crust.
4. Sous Vide
• Seal the tomahawk in a vacuum bag with butter, herbs, and garlic, and cook it in a water bath at the desired temperature (around 130°F for medium-rare), then sear in a hot pan.
• Tip: This method ensures perfect edge-to-edge cooking.
5. Pan-Seared
• Sear the steak in a hot cast iron pan with butter, garlic, and rosemary, flipping occasionally until the internal temperature reaches your preferred doneness.
• Tip: Spoon the butter over the steak while searing for maximum flavor.
