🌴 How to Care for Your Medjool Date Palm Offshoot Upon Arrival
Your Medjool date palm offshoot has arrived, now it's time to give it the right start. Once delivered, either plant it immediately or store it upright in a shaded, cool place if planting is delayed. Do not remove the rope or covering, as these are essential to protect the inner growth during the palm's early transition phase.
When you're ready to plant, choose a location that gets full sun, ideally 8 hours or more each day. Date palms thrive in heat and sunlight, so the more exposure, the better. Dig a hole about 3 feet wide and 3 feet deep, ensuring the soil drains well. If your ground holds water, mix in sand or gravel to improve drainage and avoid root rot.
After placing the offshoot in the hole, backfill with the original soil and water deeply to settle everything. Do not untie the fronds, the palm must stay tied for 6–9 months while it goes through its dormant phase and establishes its root system. Also, keep the palm covered as shown in the product photos to protect the inner growth from sun damage, insects, and animals.
Water deeply every 4–7 days depending on your soil and climate. Avoid frequent shallow watering, deep hydration is crucial for strong roots. Fertilizer isn’t necessary right away; wait at least 3 months and only begin feeding once you see healthy new frond growth. Use a balanced fertilizer designed for palm trees.
Be patient, offshoots may stay dormant for several months before pushing out fresh fronds. Once settled, your Medjool palm will begin growing into a strong, fruit-producing tree for years to come.
