Grazing Plains Farm, LLC

Grazing Plains Farm, LLC Located east of Newton, KS, we are a 5th generation dairy farm seeking environmental stewardship and economic sustainability.

Grass farming is an old practice that is receiving new attention as an ecologically sustainable form of agriculture. Grass farmers use the grazing animal to naturally harvest grass and restore the land while producing meat. Jason Schmidt fell in love with grass farming by learning from practitioners across the country and researching grass-fed beef in graduate school. Not only is grass-fed meat go

od for the environment, but it is also good for our health. Meat from cattle and sheep that are not fed grain and are raised entirely on grass is lower in total fat and has a healthier balance of fats with higher percentages of Omega-3 fats and other health promoting fats and antioxidants.

Raw milk customers: the cows are producing more milk than you all can keep up with! We are reducing the price on all milk 5 days old or older to $4/gallon. Check the “packed on” label on the lids for the date of the milk. No preorders are necessary for older milk. Thanks, and Merry Christmas!!

Are you looking for a strange stocking stuffer for the holidays? Look no further than a Grazing Plains Farm calendar! There are two options: farm scenery and cats (for the feline lovers). All photographs taken from my high-quality (sarcasm) camera on my phone. Calendars are available for purchase in our farm store or on our website (www.grazingplains.com).

Sadly, a few changes are underway at Grazing Plains. We have shutdown our cheese creamery and have sold most of our dairy herd. We will continue to milk enough cows to provide raw milk for the public for purchase in our farm store. Economic realities are challenging for us small farmers, and I am currently in the process of figuring out how to reinvent myself and the farm after years of challenges. Thanks for everyone’s support over the years!

My good old friend, Jersey Girl, is about to have her 9th calf and will turn 12 in several months. Time has not done her any favors, with bad feet and an udder scared by old mastitis cases. She is in her “retirement” years and is now a permanent nurse cow, raising baby calves. But, she still seems happy and is always down for a good hug.
