It's also important to note that these plants will get much larger when planted outside or in a larger pot. For example, the Italian Genovese that I cloned these from was about 3.5 foot tall by 2-3 foot in width -- basically a bush.

How to "dead head" basil, allowing you to grow basil indoors all year long.

Edit: I wasn't very clear on this point, but it is important to dead head the buds before you start to see flowers. Once the plant flowers, the leaves become bitter and less flavorful, so it's important to catch them as early as possible.

Hey friends, family, chefs, and garden enthusiasts-- we're selling some live basil plants (grown indoors) as well as other basil products (fresh basil, dried basil, pesto, jam, and rooted basil cuttings to grow your own plants) for anyone who's interested.

I currently have three different cultivars of basil for sale (Greek Columnar, Genovese, and Red Freddy Genovese) and two more (Pesto Perpetuo and Italian Cameo) that will be available in the future. These plants have been getting 6.5 hours of light a day and should produce fresh basil all year if kept in a southern facing window. Each potted plant is $8 and comes in a 6-inch pot.

Also, keep me in mind this Spring if you want to get a fast start on your outdoor herb garden.
