Did you know your access to fresh local seafood is at imminent risk?
There is an effort by CCA to send a referendum for people to vote to end commercial fishing and the use of nets. In another effort for them to claim all seafood as their personal playthings, this will END ALL FRESH SEAFOOD AVAILABLE IN NC (as they successfully did in Florida) They will destroy a centuries old profession - the profession that feeds people QUALITY seafood. This will force us to eat low quality imported frozen, shrimp and fish from China, Argentina, Chile, Viet Nam, and Thialand. CCA sends out ads showing the horrible methods used there to represent how it is done here, which is far from accurate. With the regulations we have to abide by you are assured of getting QUALITY, FRESH seafood here. If they are successful that would force consumers to eat the seafood caught by those same inhumane methods they claim is happening here. The seafood from those other countries is treated with chemicals and pesticides that are banned in the US. But it is legal for them to send it to us to consume. Sure, the seafood we get from them is cheaper, but at what price? What quality? Self poisoning. Cancer. these foreign companies use inhumane child labor, when farming their seafood they feed them chicken f***s (Build the pens right over the ponds), use pesticides, even GEL FILLERS they inject into the shrimp to make them weigh more. They use slave labor on fishing vessels that pack their catch in formaldehyde, not ice, they use mile long nets in the deepest parts of the ocean catching birds, dolphins, whales, turtles, and other protected species. We are required to use smaller amounts of nets with breakaway links to avoid snaring whales. The shrimp nets have turtle excluders that release any turtle that happens to get in the nets. Fish excluders to release unwanted fish. We have to carry observers to make sure we comply. Which we happily comply to. CCA claims that the nets scraping the bottom is harmful, in reality it prepares the bottom for the next crop of shrimp to feed on. If left 'unplowed' the bottom basically dies and the shrimp no longer have the mud bottom they need. CCA consists of wealthy people with enough money to convince the uninformed public that nets are bad. They claim we are overfishing. There are only several thousand commercial fishermen in NC, There are millions of recreational fishermen. Now, logically, who are getting the most fish? Are they going to catch your shrimp dinner with rod & reel? Are they going to provide fresh whiting, trout, spots, and croakers to your table? And what happens to the age old tradition quaint fishing communities, their livlihoods, of those who risk their lives to feed you?
