I am going to apologize for the long post, but we are passionate about what we do and feel the need to share this information. If you’ve been into our stores recently, you have probably noticed that we sell a lot of our High Biophenol (antioxidant) olive oil. We have A LOT of customers who use this for many medicinal purposes, such as getting off of medications for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, inflammatory diseases, weight loss, and much more! As always, we want to take a moment to educate on this hot topic of High Biophenol olive oil - because there is a lot of misinformation out there, and companies who claim to have 10-20x higher phenol levels than anyone else. We promise you, this is not a sales pitch, it is the truth. There are two different tests that count phenol levels in olive oil - one is NMR, and the other is HPLC. Our supplier, Veronica Foods, is a well known supplier of olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting shops all over the USA and Canada - they have a VERY high standard for Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and they honestly have the best products we have found in our almost 14 years of being in the olive oil business. Veronica Foods has a third party lab test their oils to verify the authenticity and analysis of their oils, this company uses HPLC to test the phenol content in the olive oils that we sell. The other test, NMR, is known for not being accurate, with some sources stating that the test often times doubles or triples the number of phenols because the signals overlapping and the overestimation of phenols. We have been noticing A LOT of companies claiming to have higher phenol levels in their oils, and when we look into them, they admit that they’re using NMR, which isn’t even the gold standard for testing Olive oil phenol levels. HPLC is preferred by the International Olive Council for authenticity. We have attached two screenshots of a test that was ran on some Olive oil that claimed to be “high polyphenol” with levels over 1,000 - which in our 14 years of selling olive oil, we have only seen an oil over 1,000 once, it is very rare! This test shows that they’re selling old olive oil, not even good enough quality to be called Extra Virgin, although that’s what they’re marketing it as. The Diacylglycerides is a test to show how fresh the oil is, our oils are ALWAYS over 90, on our fusti tags, this is labeled as DAGs - the oil tested was 41, making this oil probably around two years old. Another concerning thing is the total phenol count - 450.6 - like I said, this is advertised as high phenol oil with levels over 1,000. This is very concerning because unless you have done a lot of research and know Olive oil REALLY well, then you probably won’t notice it. Oh, did I mention the oil came back as RANCID?! That means the oil is actually HARMFUL to your body! This is just one example of several companies we have found that are using NMR to count their phenols in their oil. We always have the freshest olive oil on the market with actual high phenol levels. We stand behind our products. We are always here for our customers, and we appreciate you all! Please, be knowledgeable about the products you’re purchasing. Our oils can be used to cook with, bake with, anything! Come in and talk with us if you are on a medication that you might want to get off of, because high phenol olive oil can be used for a lot!
