Wow this winter has been waaaaaayyy busier than I expected. Instead of resting up I have been raising up a litter of unanticipated and unavoidable puppies, starting my journey as a college student (again! 🎉) for vet tech, and hosting new friends at my trans desert respite here in the mountains between the Navajo Nation and Zuni Pueblo. I'm so tired but so happy 🫩😅

Anywho just wanted to show off my giant zucchini, the prise of last year's garden, and the seeds from it which I'll use for this season's crop. 🎃

Really happy with my winter beds this year. Four seasons in and I finally have stuff growing in winter time! Beets, carrots, broccoli raab, cilantro, arugula, radishes, turnips, onions and lettuces are all slowly plumping up.

Winter has been very mild so far, with some light rains every other week or so. Fingers crossed we get several heavy snows in the next few months. 🙏🏼🤞🏼🌨️

What's up y'all if you are able please donate to my friend's campaign for getting their truck fixed up. Their sheep are the ones you see in my stories! 🐏🐑🐑🐏

Late summer update at Dancing Juniper Gardens. The monsoons have finally arrived and just in time because everything is starting to fruit. Tomatoes, tomatillos, summer and winter squash, corn, and cannabis are my main crops this season, with broccoli raab and arugula dominating the greenhouse.

I also just put down fall crops last week so beets, carrots, radishes, arugula, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, lettuce and broccoli are starting to pop in the herb bed I upgraded.

Thank you Cloud People for the good rain!! 🙏🏼⛈️

In an effort to conserve our most precious life-giver, water, I used the extra soil from digging out the greenhouse to make beds against the low side of the orchard berms. So far they're filled with potatoes and some garlic that was growing in my hugel bed paths.

I plan to add flowers, herbs, vegetables, and grains like quinoa and sorghum as well as cannabis to each of the five apricot swales. Modified vinegar jugs turned upside down and partially buried will serve as a makeshift olla system to maximize water pe*******on deep into the soil during drought conditions.

Unfortunately none of my plum seeds have sprouted so might not be adding those to the field this year, we'll see if they crack yet. I've got what I think are honey locust seeds I really wanna get some of those around. Black locust would be great to add, too. ADD IT TO THE LIST! 😅

aka is one of the first plants to arrive in spring here in the SW Rockies. Edible from root to leaf and medicinal, too. These roots are a feature of ancient gardens tended by the Original Peoples of Turtle Island. They benefit from moderate human disturbance when harvested. After they have gone to seed they can be dug up and the seeds planted in the remaining hole.

Hey ya'll. I'm hosting a lil mini workshop soon to finish the fire pit project from last year. We'll lay down the last superadobe bags and then plaster them, harvesting materials from the around the site.

🌞I'm itching for spring to sprung already!

Greenhouse frame is up. Getting cover on it this week.

Turnips are popping 🌱 got some carrots and beets peeking out, too.

We are getting snow frequently so I'm stocking up on the water. It's shaping up to be a better, wetter season than last year. 🌨️

Poco a Poco

The milpas thawin
And my plantin hands itchy

I'm letting the land heal me
Show me how to do something different
How to leave it all better
Then when I got there

In the desert everything takes five times longer than you think
Elsewhere it's usually just three
But this monsoon season
I harvest water from a roof!
